Neathery leaves Sheridan, returns to Benton as athletic director
Tuesday, June 12, 2007 3:05 PM CDT
After one season on the job, Scott Neathery has stepped down as Sheridan’s football coach to become the athletic director at Benton
Neathery, who led the Yellowjackets to the state playoffs last season for the first time in six years, replaces Randy Rutherford, who left to become the principal at Bryant.
A Sheridan school board meeting was held Monday night and a replacement could be named as soon as today, according to sources close to the situation. Assistant coach Benji White served as Sheridan’s interim coach last season in Neathery’s absence.
A former Benton assistant coach prior to taking the Sheridan job in early 2006, Neathery missed a large portion of last season while receiving treatment for leukemia after being diagnosed on the afternoon of the Yellowjackets’ season-opener.
Attempts to reach Neathery were unsuccessful.
Sheridan will open the season against Class 4A state runner-up Warren in the Hootens Kickoff Classic on Aug. 27 at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff’s Golden Lion Stadium.
