The opening celebration of “The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion” exhibit and the premiere of a gospel musical drama will be held this week.
A fun-filled day of activities is planned for the opening celebration of “The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion” exhibit, which is on display at the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas.
A reception will be held from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, followed by a “Make It, Take It” Mayan medallion craft and a tour of the exhibit. (Children must be accompanied by an adult.)
In this exhibit, visitors are transported to Palenque, Mexico, where an archaeological team has mysteriously disappeared from a dig site while investigating rumors of a priceless jade medallion buried in the ruins. Parents and children can follow the clues to locate the medallion.
Also at the Arts and Science Center, in conjunction with the “Las Artes de Mexico” exhibit, which is on display, Dr. Sara G. Hardin of Pine Bluff will give a gallery talk beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Details: Call the Arts and Science Center at 536-3375.
The premiere of the gospel musical stage play, “The Chuch©!,” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
The play will explore church and family dilemmas that will allow the audience to experience the joy or pain of finding a solution to life’s issues by looking to God for guidance and healing.
This 28-member cast and crew consists of musicians, singers, actors and energetic young people who will “take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride through song, serious dialogue and laughter,” a spokesman said.
The production will be presented by the Bearden Production Co., an Arkansas-based, not-for-profit organization formed in 2006 by Legenia Spiller-Bearden. Details: Call (501) 541-1164, e-mail info@beardenproductions.com or visit the Web site at www.beardenproductions.com.
