UA BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES TUITION HIKES

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees voted unanimously Friday to raise tuition rates and fees for students at most campuses in the University of Arkansas System.
The increases range from 3.7 percent to 8.6 percent and will take effect in the fall 2008 semester.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s tuition will increase from $4,499 per semester to $4,676, a 3.9 percent increase.
At the University of Arkansas at Monticello, tuition will go from $4,300 to $4,600, a 7 percent increase while UAM’s Technology Center will receive a 7.9 percent increase from $1,900 to $2,050.
Friday, the board also voted to renew UAPB’s $1 million line of credit. The chancellor, Dr. Lawrence A. Davis Jr., said the line of credit is a form of insurance for the university, in the event of a lag between outgoing cash and incoming federal reimbursements. The university did not have to use its credit in the past year, he said.
Meanwhie Friday, the university system’s flagship campus in Fayetteville will see tuition and fees increase 6 percent. A full-time student taking 15 credit hours will pay $6,399 for the fall semester, up from $6,038.
The increase will include a newly created facility fee of $2 per semester credit hour. Also, students at the Sam M. Walton College of Business will see a 1 percent differential tuition increase, and students at the School of Architecture will see an 11.95 percent increase in their teaching equipment and laboratory enhancement fee.
The biggest increase, in terms of percentage, is at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where full-time students will go from paying $4,060 in tuition and fees this semester to $4,410 in the fall, an 8.6 percent increase.
Per-semester increases at other campuses include:
University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, from $8,116 to $8,569, a 5.6 percent increase.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock, from $5,743 to $6,123, a 6.6 percent increase.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law, from $8,340 to $8,835, a 5.9 percent increase.
Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, from $2,180 to $2,300, a 5.5 percent increase.
University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, from $2,290 to $2,465, a 7.6 percent increase.
University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, from $2,610 to $2,730, a 4.6 percent increase.
Tuition and fees will not increase at Cassatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas Community College at Hope or the Clinton School of Public Service.
