WHITE HALL — Aldermen voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance banning door-to-door solicitation and transient merchants Monday at White Hall City Hall.

“It’s for the protection of our citizens,” said Mayor James “Jitters” Morgan.

“We have all kinds of people going door-to-door. We’ve checked on some of these folks and found them to have warrants for their arrest

The ordinance prohibits all door-to-door solicitation except that done by local school clubs, youth or civic clubs and other approved community organizations.

Transient merchants and temporary vendors are also banned by the new ordinance from operating within White Hall city limits.

The provisions of the ordinance do not apply to vendors at authorized festivals or the licensed Highway 270 Flea Market.
