Lillian Case
Lillian L. Cullipher Case, 85, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 3, 1922, in DeWitt, Ark., daughter of the late Robert Irvin Cullipher and Lelar Mildred Wages Cullipher. Mrs. Case was reared and received her early education in Reydell.
Mrs. Case was a homemaker.
She was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible study.
Mrs. Case was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Porter Case; two brothers, Cecil Cullipher and William “Bill” Cullipher; and three sisters, Jessie Waldo, Marie McClintock and Effie Capps.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Case Bledsoe and Martha Jean Case Smith, both of Pine Bluff; son, Marvin Danny Case of Glendale; sister, Lorraine Kochel of Winter Park, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors, with Rev. James Watson and Rev. Gary Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Randal.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at Robinson’s from 6-8 p.m.
Bernestine Cooper
Bernestine Louise Cage Cooper, born May 1, 1930, departed this life on Friday, June 27, 2008, at 4 p.m. as a result of complications from polymyositis.
She has gone home to be with her heavenly father where she will also be reunited with those who preceded her. Monroe and Adelaide Cage; great-grandparents, Will and Geneva Cage; grandparents, Gilbert and Ollie Ross Brand; grandparents, Goldman Cage and Mattie Brand; parents, Levell Johnson Sr.; brother and his wife, Dorothy Montgomery Johnson; and several aunts and cousins.
She leaves here on earth those she loved most to remember her shining legacy, James Pervis “Papa” Hayes; her cousin and “Dad,” James Pervis Cooper; son and his wife, Jeanette, and their son, Jameson Edward Cooper; granddaughter, Alpha Devine Cooper Coburn; Alpha’s husband Jon and their children, Blake Alithorne Coburn and Meya Amalie Coburn, Berthena Elorise Cooper Jones, daughter and her husband, Gregory Keith and their children, Josiah Keith and Jessica Machell Jones, Gloria Denise Cooper Chambers, daughter and her husband, Mahdi and their daughters, Zakiya Nzinga and Sharifa Jamila; a niece, Patricia Louise Johnson Alaman and her husband, Leslie, and their children, Lemuel Corban and Dorothy Damaris, Levell Johnson Jr., his daughters, LeChar, Charlize and Velishia; and her “special daughter,” Jennifer Lee of Pine Bluff and the entire Lee family. There is also a multitude of adopted daughters, sons, nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends who will miss her also.
Born and raised in Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Cooper attended Merrill High School class of 1948 and AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) class of 1953. She became an educator in the Arkansas state public school system and enjoyed a 38-year career as an English teacher, French teacher and finally as a librarian. After her retirement in 1992, she continued as a substitute teacher as long as her health permitted. She also set her sights on travel and was hard to pin down as she was constantly on the go to “somewhere,” enjoying the sights, relatives and friends and diligently working for the mission groups she loved so well.
Mrs. Cooper will be remembered as a lady of style, tireless worker who was always willing to do and to share, great hostess, sports lover, a funny and wide-ranging humor, great cook and entertainer, and a smiling beacon of welcoming light. She always had time, hardly ever said “no” and could be relied on to be fair and then be funny.
Homegoing services for Mrs. Cooper will be Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1404 S. Georgia St., Pine Bluff, Ark. 71601, with inhumation immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to P.K. Miller Mortuary, 204 E. Second Ave., Pine Bluff, Ark.
Visitation is today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Mrs. Cooper will lie in repose at the church Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m.
Billy Stringfellow
Billy Stringfellow, 68, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Monday at his home.
He was born March 9, 1940, in Rison, to Benjamin Franklin and Minnie May Veazy Stringfellow.
Mr. Stringfellow was reared in Rison and received his early education from the Rison and Watson Chapel public schools.
He worked for the Jefferson County Road Department for 18 years before retiring. He also bought and sold used cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cleon and Benny Stringfellow.
Survivors include his wife, Corine Minton Stringfellow, whom he married on May 1, 1961, in Altheimer; a son, Billy Dean Stringfellow and his wife, Mandy of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Cindy Lou Yarborough and her husband, Michael of Pine Bluff; three grandsons, Tony Anderson and wife Crystal, Michael Anderson and wife Melissa, both of Pine Bluff, Steffan Stringfellow of Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Ashley Austin of Jacksonville, Fla.; a great-grandson, Colton Anderson of Pine bluff; two great-granddaughters, Lexy Anderson, Bailey Anderson, both of Pine Bluff; a brother, Jessie Stringfellow of Ladd and a sister, Gladys Hopper of Rison.
Visitation will be today, 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinson’s.
Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son, with Rev. Don Nobles officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Cemetery.
The family will be at 1307 Highway 104, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71602.

Thelmer Williams
Thelmer Tyson Williams, 89, of Pine Bluff died June 25.
She was born Feb. 22, 1919, at Augusta, a daughter of the late Izzy Tyson and Henry Tyson.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. James O. Williams; two children, JoHarriette Williams and James Tyson Williams; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday. Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Johnnie O’Hara
CARTHAGE — Mrs. Johnnie Jo O’Hara, 59, of Carthage died Monday, June 23, 2008.
She was born in Carthage to the late Robert and Johnnie Mae O’Hara.
Her survivors include five sons, Billy (Laverne) Mitchell of Malvern, Robert (Sheila) Johnson of Pine Bluff, Lindsey (Veronica) Harris, Lee Harris of Carthage; three daughters, Paula Harris of Little Rock, Gwendolyn (Aldo) Chappell of San Diego, and Penny Walker of Little Rock; a brother, Billy O’Hara of Carthage; two sisters, Rosie Smith and Mary O’Hara of Las Vegas; aunt, Elizabeth “E.J.” Oakley of Antioch, Calif.; a grandson whom she raised from birth as her son, Marquis Harris of Little Rock; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Her services will be Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Carthage, by Rev. Walter L. Hawkins Jr. at 12 noon. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Carthage.
Visitation will be today, July 1, 2008, from 4:30-6 p.m. at Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce.
The family will be at 117 S. Short St., Carthage, Ark.
Norman Pickens
GOULD — Norman Lee Pickens, 60, of Gould died Sunday at Dumas.
He was born Sept. 30, 1947, a son of the late Franze and Margaret Ilean Pickens.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church and the Triple Deuce Vietnam Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley F. Pickens; three sons, five brothers, four sisters and six grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas.
Larry Dean
MONTICELLO — Larry Dean, 66, of Monticello passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Bradley County Medical Center in Warren.
He was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Ingalls, Ark., the son of the late Garland Dean and Annie Johnson Dean.
He was a retired radio broadcaster, having started in radio in 1961, a graduate of Vick High School and a member of Landmark Baptist Church in the Gravel Ridge community in Bradley County.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Johnny Bob and Rudy Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Dana Brown Dean of Monticello; two daughters, Cynthia McNabb of Morrilton and La Cinda Dean of Heber Springs; three stepchildren, Kenny Davis and Lance Davis, both of Monticello, and Staci Gregory of England; two brothers, Billy Dean of Medford, Ore., and Joe Dean of Crossett; four sisters, Linda Standard and Jennifer Harrod, both of Hermitage, Charlotte Ferrell of Johnsville and Sandra Judkins of Warren; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Burial in Union Hill Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Herring
WARREN — William Ted Herring, 77, of Warren died Sunday at Arkansas Heart Hospital at Little Rock.
He was born July 22, 1930, in Bradley County, a son of the late Grover George Herring and Ethall Grace Ferrell Herring.
Survivors: wife, Gladys Marie Davis Herring; sons, Doug Herring and Allen Herring; daughter, Judy Atwell; brother, Jonathan David Herring; sisters, Eva Mae Bradford, Jo Ann Johnson, Georgia Dean George, Wanda Nell Reynolds; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westside Baptist Church. Burial: Parker Prospect Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Susie Gober
WHITE HALL — Susie Elizabeth Martin Gober, 87, of White Hall died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in McGehee, Ark., to the late John and Hester Breedlove Martin.
She attended schools in the McGehee School District and she was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gober in 1981; one son, Johnny Gober; sisters, Geneva Wilson, Rene Richter and Ruby Bell.
She is survived by son, Bobby Gober of White Hall; daughters, Shirley Stewart of White Hall, Betty Couch of Nashville, Ark., Mary Croft of Russellville, Ark., and Jerri Quarles of Hardin community; brother, Buford Martin of Memphis, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Cranford Funeral Home in White Hall, with John Bean officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family will be at 3012 Gorman Road.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Quarles, Joseph Perdue, Thomas Croft, Wayne Reed, Ricky Ringo and K.J. Silvey.
