KIDS TO LEARN TRICKS AND TOOLS OF CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION

Two programs are offering future crime scene investigators a chance to learn.

The Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas is calling all budding investigators to its Summer Scholars program.

Summer Scholars I — CSI is set for noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the center. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade will learn about crime scene investigation. Students will get hands-on experience with materials and technologies used by investigators: Fingerprint analysis, DNA extraction and problem solving. The cost is $120 for center members and $150 for non-members.

The Central Park Weed and Seed Program is sponsoring a free Crime Scene Investigation Summer Camp for students in grades 6-8.

The event will be held today through Friday at Southeast Arkansas College, 1900 Hazel St. Students living within the Weed and Seed boundaries between Olive Street, 10th Avenue, Hazel Street and 30th Avenue will have priority.

The program will introduce the techniques used to probe crime evidence.Designed to stimulate study in science, math and criminal justice while developing critical thinking skills.

  • $100,000 to begin site preparation for a new court building adjacent to the county detention center will be considered by committees of the Jefferson County Quorum Court Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse.

  • Dr. Christina Reyes-Scott, a Jefferson Comprehensive Care System staff member, will conduct a free discussion of lupus during the meeting of the Arkansas chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America support group for Pine Bluff and the surrounding area.   • Cancer Care With Grace, a new outreach program, will be introduced at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Arkansas Cancer Institute, 7200 Hazel St. Sponsored by the Arkansas Cancer Institute and Grace Episcopal Church, the first meeting will include a support group meeting for cancer patients, survivors and caretakers.   • The Pine Bluff City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at the Council Chambers at the Pine Bluff Civic Center.

  • The Dollarway School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

  • The Pine Bluff Rotary Club will meet at noon Tuesday at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

  • The West Pine Bluff Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

  • Weed and Seed Coffee with the Chief is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 32 School St.
