Six of 28 incumbent directors serving on Jefferson County school boards will be up for election Sept. 16.
Three of the six are currently holding positions on the Pine Bluff School Board. There are no seats up for election in the Dollarway School District because of the board’s reorganization in 2007.
The filing period for candidates to submit petitions to the county clerk opens at noon Friday and closes at noon July 18. Candidates must submit the signatures of 20 residents of their district, in addition to a political practices pledge.
The period for write-in candidates to file a notice of intent and political practices pledge runs from noon July 16 to noon July 23.
The school board seats in Jefferson County up for election by district:
n Pine Bluff district: The 3-year terms of Zone 3 Director Joyce Holloway and Zone 5 Director David Brown are up in September. Zone 7 Director Richard Redus, who is filling an unexpired term, can file a petition to seek election to the balance of the term, which expires in 2009.
n Watson Chapel School District: The term of Donnie Hartsfield, Zone 4 representative and board president, expires in September. Watson Chapel directors serve 5-year terms.

Two of the seven directors are serving 3-year terms that expire in 2010; two are serving 4-year terms that expire in 2011; and three are serving 5-year terms that expire in 2012.
