A $50,000 bond was set Friday for a Jefferson County man who allegedly beat and kicked his girlfriend Wednesday resulting in a broken nose, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and other injuries.
Circuit Judge Rob Wyatt Jr. set the bond for George Hankins, 37, after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Hankins with first-degree domestic battery. Wyatt also ordered Hankins to have no contact with the woman until the case is settled.
Reading from an affidavit from sheriff’s investigator Todd Davis, Deputy Prosecutor Cymber Tadlock said the woman was interviewed at the Stuttgart Hospital Thursday and said she and Hankins had been at a friend’s house Wednesday when Hankins became jealous and claimed she was flirting with the friend.
The woman said she and Hankins had gone to the house they shared on Mary Road and he “hit her with his fist several times, kicked her until she fell and continued kicking her.
“He also broke her cell phone which was her only way of communication and she drove her self to the Stuttgart hospital after Hankins passed out,” Tadlock quoted the affidavit as saying.
When Hankins was arrested, Tadlock said he waived his right to an attorney and admitted he and the woman had gotten into an argument “but claimed he was too intoxicated to remember what happened.”
