Arthur Littlejohn
Mr. Arthur Earl Littlejohn was born in Pine Bluff on Nov. 17, 1934, to the late Ed and Beatrice Littlejohn. He departed this life on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Highland Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Rev. S.B. Scott.
He attended and graduated from C.P. Coleman High School.
He was preceded in death by parents and brother, Dr. Walter L. Littlejohn.
Survivors include two sisters, Lannie Ruth Kyser of Detroit and Sammie Littlejohn of Pine Bluff; niece, Yvonne Hariston of Nashville; nephews, DeAndre Kyser and Antoine Kyser of Detroit; uncles, aunts, great-nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
His services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Jimmy L. Fisher Sr. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1:45 p.m. until time of service.
The family will be at 1218 S. Larch St., Pine Bluff, Ark.
Helen Shavies
Helen Louise Hall Shavies, 95, of Pine Bluff died July 31.
She was born at Camden to the late John and Lottie Hall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Shavies.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Baptist Church at Sherrill with the Rev. G.L. Ford officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The body will be at the church from 10:15 a.m. until time of service Friday.
The family will be at 2401 Howard Drive.
Roosevelt King Jr.
MONTICELLO — Roosevelt King Jr., 77, of Monticello died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Drew Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ella Wea Witherspoon King of Monticello; seven sons, Bennie King and Bufford King, both of St. Louis, Mo., Carl King, Roosevelt King III, Tommy King, Richard King and Michael King, all of Monticello; five daughters, Ruby King of St. Louis, Mo., Marie King of Fairfield, Calif., Mary King and Brenda Kelvin, both of Oakland, Calif., and Rose Daniels of Monticello; two brothers, Rev. L. Cotton of Winchester and Troy Cotton of Dumas; four sisters, Inez Floyd, Levy Frazier and Octavia Brooks, all of Oakland, Calif., and Jessie Horn of Cincinnati, Ohio; 37 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Revival Center in Monticello. Burial in Green Mount Cemetery. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today.
Mark Thrower
WHITE HALL — Mark Steven Thrower, 51, of White Hall, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Thrower was born June 22, 1957, in Riverside, Calif., to the late Frederick Lamar Thrower and Wanda Priest Thrower Kelly. He was reared and received his education in Woodlawn. He attended Pines Vo-Tech College, earning a technical degree in automotive works.
Mr. Thrower was a self-employed auto mechanic.
He attended the non-denominational church.
Mr. Thrower is survived by two brothers, Mike Thrower and his wife, Sandy of White Hall, and Shawn Thrower of Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Carnell Nutt of Abbeville, La.; and his stepfather, Cleo Kelly of Pine Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinson’s.
A graveside service will be Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, 10 a.m. at Jefferson Cemetery with Wayne Thrower officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Mildred Tucker
ANGLETON, Texas — Milford Thurman Tucker, 70, of Angleton, Texas, died Monday.
He was born Oct. 8, 1937, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Joseph Tucker and Eva Lee Ratliff Tucker.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Horton of Louisiana, Patricia Robinson of California, Tina Tucker of Mississippi, Robert Tucker of San Antonio, Lonnie Tucker of Pearl River, La., Kevin Tucker of Katy, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Cemetery near Rison. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
Albert Williams Jr.
CAMP SPRINGS, Md. — Albert M. Williams Jr. of Camp Springs, Md., the oldest of three children of Mr. and Mrs. Albert M. Williams Sr., was born on June 5, 1942, in Monticello, Ark. He expired on Aug. 3, 2008, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello and later attended From the Heart Church in Temple Hills, Md. When his health failed, he was returned to his roots for perpetual care at the Monticello Healthcare Center.
His early education was received in Monticello and he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from AM&N College where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Upon graduation in 1963, he enrolled in the U.S. Air Force Officer’s Candidacy School and spent 38 years in service to his country, 12 years on active duty and 26 years in reserve status. In the Air Force, he was a flight navigator and decorated veteran of the Vietnam War having received a dozen service medals. While on active military duty, he earned the MBA from Pepperdine University and later earned a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law School.
He operated a private practice of law in Washington, D.C., and continued in government service as a civil rights attorney for the U.S. Department of Transportation where he received numerous commendations for drafting Civil Rights Legislation.
He married Kaye Bonner of Waco, Texas, and to this union one daughter, Allison Camille Williams was born. He later married Lula Alexander of Chicago, Ill., and they became the proud parents of Albert M. Williams III. He was predeceased by his mother, Carrie Oglesby Williams; and his daughter, Allison.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Williams of Camp Springs, Md.; two sons, Kelvin (Tenita) Gragg of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Albert III of Long Island, N.Y.; his father, Albert M. Williams Sr., of Monticello, Ark.; two sisters, Jacquelyn (Parnell) McCray of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Linda Williams-Willis of Houston, Texas; his stepdaughter, Lisa Alexander of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons; one nephew; two nieces; and numerous cousins and longtime friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 9 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello at 10:30 a.m. with Christian Brothers Funeral Home in charge. Burial with full military honors will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello.
Orelia Lee, 81, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday at her home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Henson Mortuary.
Viola Smith, 47, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perry Funeral Home.
DETROIT — Parries Huskey, 85, of Detroit died Friday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Serenity Gardens Funeral Services of Dumas.
