Tyrus Cross
Tyrus “Sqenky” Lynette Cross, 47, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at St. Paul MB Church with Pastor Charles E. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Woods Cemetery in Cleveland.
Visitation was held from 7 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Brinson Funeral Home.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1960, to Mary Lee Cross in Cleveland.
She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. John Matthews at St. Paul MB Church in Cleveland.
She attended H.M. Nailor and East Side High School, where she graduated in 1978. She had a passion for education and decided to further her ambitions at Jackson State University, where she received a bachelor’s of science degree in management.
She was a woman who possessed many talents. Throughout her life she worked at H.M. Nailor, the Mississippi Department of Corrections, O’Hare Airport in Chicago, Tyson Chicken and Central Moloney, where she worked until her untimely death.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary L. Cross Dillard; father, Ferman Gunnells; stepfather, Earnest Dillard; sister, Carol Manning; grandparents, K.P. and Henrietta Cross; and several special uncles.
She is survived by devoted friend, Mark Hines; two brothers Carlos (Salwa) Dillard of Chicago and Ferman Gunnells Jr. of Pine Bluff, Ark.; six sisters Anita, Bonita, Tracey, Terry and Lakeita Dillard, all of Chicago, Sandra (A.R.) Fields of Pine Bluff, Ark.; four heart sisters, Angela Michelle (Charles) Peoples of Chicago, Celeste Elaine Gee and Florida Renee Haynes Mckay, both of Cleveland, and Antoinette Odom of Nembhard, N.J.; three heart brothers, Jaime Darryl (Patricia) Glenn of Memphis, Tenn., Odell (Mary) Glenn Jr. of South Haven and Byron Cross of Atlanta; one goddaughter, Lakeisha D. Glenn of Chicago; one godfather, Uncle William Cross of Norristown, Pa.; three other uncles, Freddie L. (Aniece) Cross of Houston, Attorney Othello C. Cross of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Bob (Edna) Cross of Chicago; two aunts, Alice M. Gandy of Arlington, Texas and Yvonne Hannah (John) Garrett of Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Helen Bryant
FORDYCE — Helen F. Bryant, 90, of Fordyce died Thursday at Dallas County Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 15, 1917, at New Edinburg, a daughter of the late Montie E. Bryant and Allie Tipton Bryant.
Survivors: one brother, Max E. Bryant of Little Rock; and four sisters, Betty Lisemby and Montine Bryant, both of Fordyce, Shirley Cherry of Odem, Texas, and Pat Belin of Hermitage.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce with the Rev. Stacy Reed officiating. Burial will be in McCoy Cemetery.
Johnnie McCormick
HEBER SPRINGS — Johnnie (Northern) McCormick, the daughter of William Northern and Mattie Mae (Kennedy) Jones was born in Holland, Mo., on April 18, 1925, and passed away at her home in Heber Springs, Ark., on July 31, 2008, at the age of 83 years.
Mrs. McCormick was a member of the Church of Christ and had been a resident of Heber Springs for the past month. She had lived most of her life in Pine Bluff, Ark. Johnnie was proud to have been an election official, she enjoyed making bears for the children’s ward at Jefferson Regional Medical Center and working in her garden. She was an avid collector of glassware.
Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Billy J. McCormick; a brother, Thomas Northern; and two sisters, Ester Callens and Bernice Owens.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Carter and husband, Charles of Maumelle, Marsha Daniel of Heber Springs and Gwen Hall and husband, Mike of Moundville, Ala.; a brother, Fenter Northern of Montgomery, Ala.; and a sister, Kathleen Wilson of Shell Knob, Mo. She is survived by three grandchildren, Jason Carter and wife, Rebecca, Julie Carter and Zachary Ray and wife, Rebekah; a stepgrandson, Sam Hall; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Carter, Faith Carter, Sarah Carter and Kelsea Ray; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Kayla Martin.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele, Mo., at 1 p.m. by Mr. Fenter Northern. A memorial service will be held in Pine Bluff at the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at 2:30 p.m.

Beverly Weeks
NEW EDINBURG — Beverly Lynn Weeks, 58, of New Edinburg died Wednesday at Bradley County Medical Center.
She was born March 29, 1950, at Warren, a daughter of the late Sherman Thompson and Louella Huddleston Thompson.
Survivors: husband, James Weeks; three sons, Jamie Weeks of Marion, Mark Weeks of Warren and Terry Weeks of Steele, Mo.; three sisters, Norma Jean Hensley of New Edinburg, Helen May of Seattle and Elizabeth Marks of Bryant; five grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. today at Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren. Burial: Reaves Cemetery near New Edinburg.
Rex J. DeLaHunt, 86, of Pine Bluff died Friday at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veteran’s Hospital at Little Rock. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Kimber Hill of Pine Bluff died Thursday at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Henson Mortuary.
