TRUCK WEIGHTS, CANDIDATE TALKS ON ITINERARY
BY THE COMMERCIAL STAFF
Jefferson County Quorum Court will consider a proposed ordinance to allow the county to weigh vehicles suspected of being over the weight limit and a local group will meet with local candidates to discuss goals for Pine Bluff this week.
If approved, a proposed ordinance to prohibit overweight trucks on county roads will save the county money, County Judge Mike Holcomb said Friday.
Justices of the peace will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse. Holcomb said the cost to maintain roads is increasing, especially because of the price of asphalt and diesel fuel. Some truck drivers with heavy loads have been using county roads instead of state highways to avoid getting tickets, he said.
