Loyd Morgan
Loyd B. Morgan, age 81, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Thursday, September 25, at JRMC.
He was born May 15, 1927, in Ingalls, Ark. a son of the late Lee Benjamin Morgan and Jose Hamilton Morgan. He served in the U. S. Army, was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and the owner and operator of Morgan Tree Service.
He is survived by his wife Vertie Kelley Morgan whom he married in July of 1965; four sons Steve Phillips and spouse Judy, Kelley Lee Morgan and spouse Lori and Stanley Morgan and spouse Vickie all of Pine Bluff, Ark. and Loyd “Benny” Morgan, Jr. and spouse Mary Camden, Ark; four daughters Martha Canada and spouse Darrel and Karen Canada and spouse Larrel all of Camden, Ark, Cathy Morgan, Holly Springs, Ark. and Michelle Leyva and spouse Jose, Tampa, Fla; two brothers Doyle Morgan and Jerry Morgan, Pineville, La; one sister Charlotte Pinkerton, Jessieville, Ark; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services 4 p.m. Monday, Sept 29, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Glendale, Ark.

Beulah Smithey
Beulah Martha “Boots” Dean Kientz Smithey, age 83, of Pine Bluff died Sept. 25, 2008.
Born October 14, 1924 in Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Perry Eugene Dean and Zora Lee Smith Dean Wray.
Boots was reared in Pine Bluff and was a graduate of McGehee High School.
During World War II, she worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.
She then worked as a floor supervisor for Newberry’s and Woolworth Department Stores. For several years, she worked with her sister’s interior design company, the Shollmier Shop. She owned and operated a liquor store in Little Rock for a while.
The culmination of her working career came as a driver for AAA Limo serving the Union Pacific Railroad.
She was a member of South Side Baptist Church, and was a 4th runner-up in the Mrs. America Pageant in the 1940s.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leland M. Kientz, Jr. and John R. Smithey; an infant son, Leland M. Kientz, III; three brothers, Vernon E. Dean, J. W. Dean, and Harlow E. Dean; and by three sisters, Juanita Shollmier, Myra Griffen, and Helen Dean.
Survivors include a son, Frantz E. Kientz of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Sheila M. Kientz Nelson of Pine Bluff; two step-sons, Bob Smithey and John E. Smithey, both of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at South Side Baptist Church with Brother Ed Gillham officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nancy Brooks
RUSSELLVILLE — Nancy Kaye Brooks of Russellville passed at home peacefully Thursday morning, Sept. 25, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was 65.
She worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service for a total of 30 years, beginning as a secretary and ending her career as an attorney at the Office of Counsel with the Corps of Engineers. In her mid-40s, while still working full-time and raising a family, Nancy went to law school, and never failed to make the Dean's List during her entire college career, passing the bar on her first attempt, a point of considerable pride for her family.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by a son, Joe Hurdle of Little Rock; two daughters, Tammy Wallman and her husband Scott Wallman of Newport News, Va., and Kimberly Luningham and her husband Dale Luningham of Russellville; three grandchildren, J.B. Luningham of Russellville, Steve Wallman and his wife Katie of Newport News, Va., Kimberly Wallman, of Newport News, Va., two brothers, Joe Brooks and his wife Johanna of Fort Smith, Rev. Jim Brooks and his wife Anna of Pine Bluff; a sister, Velma Smith of Paris. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members, including her ex-husband and good friend Joe Pete Hurdle of Russellville, and her precious dog Scooter who never left her side and was curled up at Nancy's feet as she passed away.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rev. and Mrs. Raymond (Velma) Brooks, and four brothers, Herman, J.R., Gene and Eldon Brooks.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist church in Russellville. Burial will immediately follow at Nixon Cemetery in Charleston, Ark., under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Through the past year of frequent doctor's visits, Nancy fought cancer bravely. She loved her family dearly, and wanted to spend as much time as possible with them.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Arkansas Hospice for the River Valley Center, 2405 E. Parkway, Russellville, Ark., 72802. Nancy volunteered with Hospice, and the group allowed her the freedom to pass away in her own bed in a room filled with people who loved her. Amy Smith
Amy Carol Smith, 58, of Star City died Friday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born September 26, 1950, in Dumas.
She attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church near Star City and was a volunteer at the Gardner Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Price Smith and a brother, Thomas Price Smith Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Rosalind Granger Smith of Star City; two brothers, Thomas Ronald Smith and wife Annette of Hattiesburg, Miss., Zif Harold Smith of Little Rock; one sister, Gloria Wright and husband Joe of Monticello; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at the Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City with Brother Bill Hilburn and nephew Brother Thomas Ronald Smith Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until funeral time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hickory Grove Baptist Church at 802 Keepsake Road, Star City, Ark. 71667. John Horn
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — John Thomas Horn, 75, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died recently in his home.
He was born on May 17, 1933, in Shreveport, La., to Fannie Bebee Horn and George Horn. The family later moved to Arkansas where he received his early education.
John entered the United States Army in 1950, becoming a Special Forces officer, and retired as a major in 1973. His military service awards included: Silver Star Medal; Bronze Star; Purple Heart; Master Parachute Badge; Pathfinder Badge; Ranger Tab; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Korean Service Medal, 1950-51; and Vietnam Service Medal, 1963-70.
He was a graduate of Command and General Staff College, Samford University, and Birmingham School of Law with a juris doctor. He passed the Alabama State Bar and practiced General Law in Alabama until his retirement in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one son, Thomas Henry Horn; and two grandchildren, Heather Michelle Horn and Nicholas Thomas Horn, all of Columbus, Ga.; four brothers, William (Mary) Horn, of Pine Bluff, Ark.; George (Peggy) Horn and Leroy (Eddress) Horn, of White Hall, Ark.; Ellis (Katie) Horn, of North Richland Hills, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Garrey Hamilton
EL PASO, Texas — Garrey Lynn Hamilton, 27, of El Paso, Texas, passed away Thursday Sept. 25, 2008 at Houston Hospice, in Houston, Texas. He was born June 5, 1981 in El Paso, Texas.
He was a salesman, student and a Baptist.
Survivors include his parents, Lynn Carrol Hamilton and Diana Lynn Hensley Hamilton of El Paso, Texas; one brother, Anthony Griffith of Bastop, La.; two sisters, Elizabeth Elliot of Glendale, Ky., and Tina Hamilton of Percyville, Va.; seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Burial in Lone Sassafras Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Walter H. Baker, 100, of Pine Bluff, died Friday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Margie Clayton, 59, of Pine Bluff died Saturday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Lucille Brewer, 90, of Fordyce died Saturday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce.
