Bernard Thornton
Bernard Thornton, 69, of Pine Bluff died Sept. 20 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Dumas, Ark., to the late Laudell Thornton Sr. and Beatrice Hall Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Dante Thornton; and two brothers, Robert Thornton and Laudell Thornton.
Survivors: his wife, Geraldine Thornton of Pine Bluff; four sons, Eugene Thornton and Gorvin Boston of Pine Bluff, LaTonia Thornton of Little Rock, Ricky Thornton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five daughters, Lorraine Brown of Flint, Mich., Cynthia Thornton Walker of Shreveport, La., Tanisha Thornton Moore, Pamela Thornton and Barbara Smith, all of Pine Bluff; his stepmother, A.J. Thornton of Pine Bluff; four brothers, Steven Thornton of Little Rock, Reginald Cato, Michael Cato and Lloyd Cato, all of Pine Bluff; seven sisters, Jewel Mayes of St. Louis, Mo., JoAnn Triplett of Little Rock, Patricia Thornton of North Carolina, Jackie Thornton of Atlanta, Ga., Christie Grant, Zenola Hilliard Tisdale and Phyllis Cato, all of Pine Bluff; and one aunt, Katherine Williams of Dumas; 32 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be today, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at First Trinity Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Cypress Memorial Gardens by Christian Way Funeral Home.
Visitation was Friday, Sept. 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Carolyn Barnett
MONTICELLO — Carolyn Louise Barnett, age 44, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at her home.
She was born April 27, 1964, in Monticello.
She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church and was a nurse.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bert Barnett.
Survivors include one son, George Davis Ricks of Monticello; one daughter, Crystal Barnett of Warren; one stepdaughter, Venessa Michell Ricks of Star City; two brothers, Joe Barnett of Monticello and Robert Barnett of Dumas; five sisters, Helen Barnett, Rita Nelson, Linda Judkins and Virginia Glover, all of Monticello, and Barbara Browder of Little Rock; her mother, Dorothy Barnett of Monticello; five grandchildren; and her dear friend, David Ricks.
A memorial is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. Officiating is Rev. Bobby Spencer.

Oliver Houston
NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Oliver Joe Houston, 54, of North Little Rock died Sept. 19 at home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1953, at Milwaukee, a son of Gereline Houston of Milwaukee and the late Ernest Oliver Houston.
Other survivors include two sons, Darnell Martin of Augusta, Ga., and Marlon Martin of Pine Bluff; one sister, Debra Houston of Milwaukee; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Cypress Memorial Garden Cemetery. Arrangements are by Christian Way Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Claudine Partain
SHERIDAN — Claudine Suttle Rogers Partain, 80, of Sheridan died Thursday at Wadley Regional Medical Center at Texarkana, Texas.
Survivors: son, Ron Rogers of Texarkana, Texas; daughter, Judy Rogers of Texarkana; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan with Michael Walton officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery at Booneville.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Annie Grissom
TILLAR — Annie Mae Stevens Grissom, 90, Tillar, Ark., born Aug. 14, 1918, Jefferson community (Desha County) to the late Will and Dora Brown Stevens. Mrs. Grissom passed away Sept. 24, 2008.
Mrs. Grissom was a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from Dantan and a homemaker.
Survivors: sons, Dicky (Connie) Grissom, Sheridan, Jay (Shirley) Grissom, Dumas; daughters, Sue (Raymond) Grissom Ingram, Tillar, and Gloria (Bobby) Baker, Arkansas City; brother, Eugene Stevens; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday, Griffin Funeral Home Chapel.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Sept. 27, Griffin Funeral Home Chapel followed by burial in Jefferson County.
Memorials: Scott Cemetery Assoc.

Madison Bloom
WARREN — Madison Elizabeth Bloom, age 14, of Warren, Ark., died Wednesday Sept. 24 at home.
She was born Sept. 7, 1994, at Pine Bluff, Ark., a daughter of Stan Bloom, Warren, Ark., and Theron West York, Warren, Ark.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was an eighth-grade student at Warren Middle School.
Surviving in addition to her parents is stepmother, Linda Bloom, Warren, Ark.; her comic relief partner, Brian Daniels, Warren, Ark.: a stepbrother, Lance Hill, Dumas, Ark.; three sisters, Lakin York, Warren, Ark., Sarah Bloom, Monticello, Ark., and Kerri Watson of North Little Rock, Ark.; two stepsisters, Abby Smith and Anell Meeks, both of Hamburg, Ark.; stepgrandparents, Nellie and Leon Tubbs, Hamburg, Ark.; and maternal grandmother, Virginia Horn, El Dorado, Ark.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at First Baptist Church. Burial in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Frazer’s.

Anthony Eldridge
LANHAM, Md. — Anthony R. Eldridge II, 25, of Lanham, Md., died Monday at Prince Georges Hospital at Lanham.
He was born July 25, 1983, at Kansas City, Kan., a son of Anthony R. Eldridge Sr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Karen White-Eldridge of Owings Mills, Md.
Survivors: wife, Kristi-Anna Eldridge of Lanham; three brothers, George McKinney of Denver, Evan Eldridge of Owings Mills, Alan Eldridge of Kansas City, Mo.; and one sister, Jan’a Neal of Owings Mills.
Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Miles Leach Cemetery at Dumas, Ark., with the Rev. Ron Kelly officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.
