THIS WEEK: THE FAIR, THE FBI, THE PARADE!

The district fair comes to Pine Bluff, an FBI agent will speak to clergy and law enforcement officers and applications will be available for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff homecoming parade.
The Southeast Arkansas District Fair, Livestock Show and Rodeo will be held today through Saturday at Hestand Stadium Fairgrounds.
The annual downtown parade will kick off the fair season beginning at 4:45 p.m. today on Main Street.
The carnival opens tonight at 6 p.m. Gate admission is $5. Children under six years old will be admitted free.
Family night at the fair begins Tuesday and Mid-nite Madness will be held Friday, allowing carnival participants to enjoy festivities from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. with the purchase of armbands.
Other attractions include the daily livestock shows and nightly talent shows. This year’s rodeo will be hosted by the Arkansas Rodeo Association Thursday through Saturday.
Student day and senior citizens day will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This week will also feature a presentation by Tom Browne, special agent in charge with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Browne will speak at the Weed and Seed Coffee with the Chiefs gathering at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave.
Coffee with the Chiefs provides an opportunity for law enforcement to interact with ministers to exchange information and ideas for reducing crime.
A Weed and Seed update along with the monthly “Eyes and Ears Commendation Award” will be presented to an officer or employee for their good work. A continental breakfast will be served.
As UAPB gears up for its annual homecoming, officials will begin accepting applications for the AM&N/UAPB Annual Homecoming Parade.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 in downtown Pine Bluff. Parade applications may be picked up at Corbin Hall, the Troy & Gladys Alley Information & Public Safety Center at the corner of University Drive and Reeker Street or UAPB Police and Rust Technology Hall, Room 100.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will close Exit 46 of Interstate 530 near The Pines mall Sunday from daylight until approximately noon. The purpose is to perform a routine bridge inspection. In case of inclement weather, the inspection will be postponed. Details: Call 534-1612.
The Pine Bluff Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Pine Bluff City Council Chambers at the civic center.
The agenda includes a use permit on review request to supply boarding temporarily at 407 W. Martin Place to travelers within church organizations; a request by the First United Methodist Church to close Seventh Avenue between Pine and Chestnut streets south of their facility at 200 W. Sixth Ave.; and a use permit on review request by Hope Academy Charter School, 1021 E. Second Ave., to place a portable building for classroom.
The Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff will hold its annual installation and awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Guests will include Jerry Martin, the Missouri/Arkansas district governor for Kiwanis.
The Hardin Farms Pumpkin Patch Festival will be open Wednesday 1 through Oct. 31 at the farm in Grady. Participants may pick their own pumpkins. There will also be a Native American Village, a hay maze and a haunted house. The farm is located on U.S. 65-South in Grady. Details: Call (870) 479-3978.
