Elvia Peterson

Mrs. Elvia Venerable Peterson, 94, of Pine Bluff died Sept. 24, 2008, at the Davis Life Care Center.

She was born Sept. 6, 1914, at Pine Bluff, to the late James and Eva Venerable.

She attended Coleman School.

She worked on an Army base in California for several years. She later returned to Pine Bluff and worked in housekeeping.

She married Carl Rabun. She later married Ike Peterson, who preceded her in death. A stepdaughter, Essie Peterson also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a stepson, Ike Peterson of Pine Bluff; three stepdaughters, Isaphine Peterson of San Francisco, Calif., Laura Whitaker of St. Louis, Mo., and Carolyn Peterson of Pine Bluff; a goddaughter, Sharon Blazer Bell of Fayetteville, Ark., whom she helped to raise; eight stepgrandchildren; and her caretaker for over 20 years, Mrs. Teresa Sanders Brown of Pine Bluff.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 at the New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. L.R. Jones III officiating. Interment will be in the New St. Hurricane Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary.

Visitation is today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mrs. Peterson will lie in repose at the church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Era Rand

HOT SPRINGS — Era Cloy Rand, 76, of Hot Springs died Sunday.

She was born March 2, 1932, at Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Leonard Carver and Zemma Meroney Carver.

Survivors include two sons, John M. Rand and Glen A. Rand; two daughters, Donna B. Clemons and Belinda Fielding; one sister, Nan Hynum; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rand.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Gross Funeral Home of Hot Springs.

Reba Camp

MONTICELLO — Reba Tucker Camp was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Pottsville, Ark.

She left this life to enter her eternal home on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008. Mrs. Camp’s parents are the late Mack and Ruth “Dollie” Tucker of Alameda, Calif. She was married to the late W.E. “Buddy” Camp for 45 years.

She is survived by three children, Gary Camp and wife Nancy of Pine Bluff, Beverly Burchfield and husband Bill of Monticello, and Paulette Cato and husband Mike of Spring, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Geraldine Lance of Hayward, Calif., Samuel Tucker, Maxine Bryant and husband Buddy, Raymond Tucker, Art Tucker and wife Jessie, Pat Torres and husband Reuben, all of Pine Bluff; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Camp lived in the Sherrill/England, and Pine Bluff area until four years ago, when she moved to Monticello. Mrs. Camp worked at the Watson Chapel High School cafeteria for 34 years and was the manager when she retired. She was a faithful member of several churches — Sherrill Baptist, Salem Baptist, Whiteville Baptist, and most recently Pauline Baptist in Monticello.

Family visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Ralph Robinson and Son in Pine Bluff. The celebration service will be at 10 Wednesday morning at Pauline Baptist Church in Monticello. The graveside service will be at 3 Wednesday at Brown Cemetery south of Pine Bluff. Arrangements by Ralph Robinson and Son.

Mary Chapman

MONTICELLO — Mary Beatrice Hill Chapman, 91, of Monticello died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Pine Bluff.

She was born Dec. 24, 1916, at Cedartown, Ga., a daughter of the late John Hill and Catherine Wright Hill.

Survivors include one son, John L. Chapman of Elberta, Ala.; two daughters, JoAnn Kinzalow and Leslie Diann Jackson, both of Monticello; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Union Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.

Louise Legion

WHITE HALL — Louise C. Legion, 85, of White Hall, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Candy Byrd, in Mountain Home.

She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Hampton, Ark., daughter of Charles and Liza Underwood Clarkston. Mrs. Legion was reared and received her early education in Hampton.

After moving to Pine Bluff, she worked as an arrow maker for Ben Pearson’s for several years.

Mrs. Legion was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in White Hall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Legion; daughter, Patricia Ray; parents; three brothers, Marvin Clarkston, Victor Clarkston, Leonard Clarkston; sister, Eva Lea Dowdy; and grandson, Russell “Rusty” Ray.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Waters and her husband, Thomas of Baton Rouge, La., and Candy Byrd and her husband, Rick of Mountain Home; son, Michael Legion and his wife, Susan of Hattiesburg, Miss.; son-in-law, Phillip Ray of White Hall; two sisters, Virginia Hancock of Denver, Colo., and Marie Bryant of Kerrville, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday in Robinson’s Chapel.
