John Givens Sr.
Mr. John W. “J.W.” Givens Sr., 75, died Tuesday at the Arkansas Convalescent Center.
He was born at Ladd, Ark., Nov. 21, 1932, to the late Willie and Queenester Givens.
He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Arkansas Male Chorus.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Watkins.
He is survived by three daughters, Vonda Brown of Pine Bluff, Ark., Betty Givens of Atlanta, Ga., and Yvonne Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, John Givens Jr. and Ray Givens, both of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Willie Mae Hall and Margaret Givens, both of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Gene Givens (Georgia) of Pine Bluff and Nelce Given of Albany, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. James Forte officiating. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary.
Visitation is today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the mortuary.
James Rowland
Funeral services for James Rodney “J.R.” Rowland, 27, of Pine Bluff, who died Oct. 1, 2008, at home will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at New St. Hurricane MBC Church, the Rev. Edward Thomas officiating.
He was born Oct. 16, 1980, son of Dorothy B. Rowland of Pine Bluff and the late Leander Rowland Jr.
He graduated from Pine Bluff High in 1999. He was a member of the marching band. He worked for Bonanza Steak House, Sears Department Store, General Nutrition Centers, D.R.S. Security, Securitas Security at Stant Manufacturing until his health failed. He loved to work on cars, electronics, and mowing lawns.
He was a member of Eighth Avenue MBC, where he was a member of the Brotherhood and Men’s Choir.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leander Rowland Jr.; maternal grandparents, Percy L. and Ernestine P. Randolph Bearden; and paternal grandparents Leander “Jack” and Lula Ramsey Rowland Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving mother, Dorothy Bearden-Rowland; two sisters, Theresa Marie Rowland and Linda Kay Rowland, both of Pine Bluff; one brother, Kasey Cornel “K.C.” Rowland; and two stepbrothers, Larry Clark of Jacksonville and Anthony Rowland of Pine Bluff; six uncles, Ceaser James Rowland (Kim) of Dumas, Thomas Jerome Rowland (Katrina) of Pine Bluff, David Randolph (Barbara) and James H. Rowland, both of Rochester, N.Y., Roy C. Rowland (Arlene) and Artheria Moore (Mae) of Little Rock; six aunts, Ernie Bearden-Hearn (Roy) of Pine Bluff, Shirley Bearden-Thomas (Edward) of Milwaukee, Wis., Erma Rowland-Fuller (Bobby Joe) of Hensley, Ruby Rowland of Jefferson, Ersilene Randolph-Jones of San Francisco, Calif., Genevil Randolph-Smith of Fresno, Calif.; great-aunt Essie Mae Canada of Pine Bluff; great-uncle Jesse Ramsey (Dorothy) of Little Rock; one nephew, D’Aries Cross of Pine Bluff; and a host of cousins, close and cherished friends.
Visitations may be made today, 4 to 7 p.m., at Eighth Avenue MBC Church.
The remains will lie in state at the church, Wednesday, 12 noon until funeral time. Burial will be in the Forrest Lawn Memorial Garden Cemetery by Perry Funeral Home.
Alpha Hollinger
MONTICELLO — Alpha Marie Stueart Hollinger, age 89, of Monticello, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Ark.
She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Drew County, Ark., to the late Walter Jefferson Stueart and Mollie Elizabeth McDaniel Stueart.
She was the widow of Raleigh Hollinger, a homemaker and a member of the Dermott Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Walter Hollinger Jr.; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Oscar Hollinger and wife Melba of Monticello, Benny Hollinger of Monticello, and Raleigh Hollinger Jr., and wife Anita of Dermott; three daughters, Clarine White and husband Sidney of Pine Bluff, Linda Hollinger of Monticello and Frances Willard and husband Don of Monroe, La.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home by Rev. David Jacks and Rev. Dennis Dodson. Burial will be in Dermott Cemetery with arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Emily Morgan
STAR CITY — Emily Iris Williams Morgan, 86, of Star City died Sunday.
She was born March 10, 1922, at Pine Hill, a daughter of the late John and Ivy Wynn Williams.
Survivors include one daughter, Catherine Robinson; one sister, Dorris Holland; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Freewill Baptist Church at Star City with Dwayne Roper officiating. Burial will be in Leek Cemetery by Griffin Funeral Service at Star City.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Sybil Steffen
STAR CITY — Sybil Oralee Steffen, 91, of Star City died Friday.
She was born Feb. 9, 1917, at Star City, a daughter of the late R.T. and Nancy Collier Ollar.
She retired from the grocery business.
Survivors include one daughter, Grace Byrd of Conway; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday at Griffin Funeral Service at Star City. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery at Yorktown.
Joann Moseley
WHITE HALL — Joann Moseley, age 42, of White Hall, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Mosley was born July 26, 1966, in Altheimer, a daughter of the late Veda Joe Fleury and the late Oscar Goforth and Barbara Goforth.
She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School. She was a lifelong resident of the Pine Bluff and Altheimer area.
Mrs. Moseley was a member of the White Hall First Assembly of God Church and a cashier for the Big Red Travel Plaza.
She was preceded in death by her adopted mother, Veda Joe Fleury; and her father, Oscar Goforth.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Thomas Moseley, whom she married Dec. 1, 1984, in Pine Bluff; son, Brandon Moseley; daughter, Krystal Moseley, all of the home; her mother, Barbara Goforth; two brothers, Donnie Moody of Jefferson and Bill Deckard of Bauxite; five nieces, Haven Moseley of White Hall, Kimberly and Gabrielle Moody, both of Jefferson, Cymber Deckard of East End and Melissa Gerber of Germany; three nephews, Justin Moseley of White Hall, Donnie Moody II of Maryland and Elia Gerber of Germany and countless other loving friends and family.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the White Hall First Assembly of God Church by Ralph Robinson & Son with Pastor Tim Law officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery at New Edinburg at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the White Hall First Assembly of God Church, 801 West Hoadley Road, White Hall, Ark., 71602.

Georgia Bowling
CHICAGO — Georgia Banks Bowling, 84, of Chicago died Sept. 28, 2008, at Midway Neurological Nursing Center in Bridgeview, Ill.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1924, in Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Willie James Banks Sr. and Corrie Marks Banks.
She received her early education in the Pine Bluff public schools, having attended Missouri Street Elementary School and Merrill High School. She graduated from Kennedy-King College in Chicago. Mrs. Bowling had been employed for many years at Hyatt Regency Hotel Salon, where she was a beautician and specialized in electrolysis.
She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. C.M. Hankins, then pastor of Allen Temple AME Church in Pine Bluff. She was a member of Grant Memorial AME Church in Chicago.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Bowling; a sister, Ethel Banks Willoughby; brothers, Warren Banks and Willie James Banks Jr.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Banks Lee of Pine Bluff; five nieces, three nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Greenville Cemetery in Fordyce, Ark., with Rev. Harvey Goodwin officiating.
The family will be at the home of Ms. Mary Banks Lee at 2200 Cherry Ridge Drive in Pine Bluff.
Joseph Domon
HUMBLE, Texas — Joseph Franklin Domon, 76, of Humble, Texas, died Friday Oct. 3, 2008, at home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1932, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Henry Domon and the late Essie Hudson Domon.
He graduated from White Hall in 1950. He served in the Air Force. He worked for Brown and Root at Houston, Texas. He was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Jo Lynn Bush Domon; four brothers, James Tucker, Willis Tucker, Harry Domon, and Alva Domon; and two sisters, Bonnie Tatum and Henrietta Rhoden.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Domon of Vancouver, Wash., and Olen Domon of White Hall; a sister, Laverne Reed of White Hall; a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Rosewood Humble Chapel, interment will immediately follow at Rosewood Memorial Park at Humble, Texas.
Johnny Arthur Browning, 98, of Pine Bluff died Monday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Velma Dansby, 71, of Pine Bluff died Sunday at her home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perry Funeral Home.
