Arthur Browning
Johnny Arthur Browning, 98, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 27, 1909, in Cleveland County, son of James Reuben Browning and Anna Belle Hankins Browning.
Mr. Browning was reared and received his early education in Sherrill.
He went to work for Missouri-Pacific Railroad at McGehee in 1930 as a carman. Mr. Browning moved from McGehee to Lane, Ark., and to Stuttgart before moving to Pine Bluff and buying Pair-A-Dice Inn in 1935. Mr. Browning changed the name to Arthur’s Bar-B-Q, which became a very popular restaurant in Pine Bluff for many years. He worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad as a carman helper from 1942 until 1952 while continuing to own and operate Arthur’s. He retired from Arthur’s in 1976, giving the business to his son, Johnny H. Browning. Arthur’s closed in 2005.
Mr. Browning was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Nadine Fikes Browning; parents; five brothers, James Browning, Marvin Browning, Ira Browning, Allen Browning and Veo Browning; and three sisters, Ethel Davis, Lillie Boyter and Cecil Hulse.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny H. Browning of Pine Bluff and Freddie Ray Browning of Mountain Home; daughter, Peggy V. Fitzhugh of White Hall; three sisters, Macil Robinson of Pine Bluff, Lorene Fikes of Pine Bluff and Larue Chapman of White Hall; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2008, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Bill Fitzhugh officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Robinson’s.

Aiden Robertson
Aiden Kage Robertson, 2 months old, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 2008, in Pine Bluff to Charleen M. Chaffee and Thomas B. Robertson of Pine Bluff.
Survivors are his parents, Charleen M. Chaffee and Thomas B. Robertson of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Ashlynn M. Robertson and Trea E. Robertson, both of Pine Bluff; grandparents, Tommy A. and Patti D. Robertson of Pine Bluff and Gary P. and Stephanie Chaffee of Fitchburg, Mass.; great-grandparents, Herman and Jerri Robertson, Richard J. Cliff Sr., all of Pine Bluff, Joan and Bob Doyle of Sacramento, Calif., and Ralph Chaffee Sr. of Massachusetts; aunts and uncles, Amy and Marc Rawls of Pine Bluff, Jaime and Phil Rimbach of Massachusetts, Chrisandra Chaffee of Massachusetts and Vanessa Chaffee of Pine Bluff; cousins, Ariana Rimbach of Massachusetts, Tristan Rawls of Pine Bluff, Amber Mead of Conway and Tyler Harris of Sheridan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Claude Road Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Staples officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery by Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. til time of service Thursday at the church.
The family will be their home in Pine Bluff.
Lloyd McAteer
FORDYCE — Lloyd McAteer, age 88, passed away Oct. 6, 2008, at St. John’s Place, Fordyce.
Born March 30, 1920, in Camden, Ark., Lloyd was the youngest of four children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Captolia of Bearden; his parents, Charlie and Missie Holliman-McAteer; brother, Lee; sisters, Lottie Phillips and Lydia Fitzhugh.
He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Marvin O’Mary, Fordyce, Mary and Carl Helberg, Thornton, Judy and Russell Bever, Pine Bluff; and grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) O’Mary, Chester Springs, Pa., Tina (Steve) Pennington, Bryant, Ark., and Marsha (Bryan) Waddill, Arlington, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Drew, Seth and Sean Pennington of Bryant, Catherine, Madeline and Matthew O’Mary of Chester Springs, Pa.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bearden.
Lloyd worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 232 and lifelong sports fan. He played football for the Camden Panthers.
The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Benton Funeral Home, Fordyce.
A graveside service will be held at Callaway Cemetery, Thornton, Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

Wayne Dye
MCGEHEE — Wayne Delbert Dye, 70, of McGehee died Sunday at Talladega, Ala.
He was born April 8, 1938, at Monticello, a son of the late Buford E. Dye and Velma Alice Smith Dye.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Dye; three sons, Greg Dye, Jeff Dye and Carey Dye; one brother, Winfred Dye; four sisters, Jean Carr, Ann Johnson, Mary Montgomery and Irene Adams; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin Funeral Service of McGehee.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James Ashmore
WHITE HALL — James Dewey Ashmore, 70, of White Hall died Sunday.
He was born Aug. 25, 1938, in Cleveland County, a son of the late Boyd “Pop” and Agnes Beckwith Ashmore.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ashmore; sons, Jimmy Ashmore, Joey Ashmore, Kevin Ashmore and Kenton Ashmore; daughters, Sonja McGriff, Kim McKnight and Millie McClain; brothers, Thomas Ashmore and Dale Ashmore; sisters, Margie Bubbus and Barbara Allen; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Griffin Funeral Service at Star City. Burial will be in Prosperity Cemetery in Cleveland County.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Washington Ficklin, 77, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
