Students, parents and Pine Bluff residents can look at the condemned Davis Hospital property with new eyes: It’s the site of the new recreational community center.
After shifting through the pros and cons of several different locations residents and members of Pine Bluff’s 20/20 Strategic Plan Goal No. 2 chose the site Thursday night.
Goal No. 2 captain Scott Robinson stated during earlier meetings that the property had potential because of its visibility and nearness to Pine Bluff High School.
The city is slated to pay for the demolition of the building.
The aim of Goal No. 2 is to provide Pine Bluff with a multi-purpose recreation center whose primary users will be youths and seniors.
Updates were given on other 20/20 goals at an earlier implementation meeting Thursday.
Goal No. 11 recently won a grant from the Pine Bluff Community Foundation for $2,500 to support the cost of study materials.
The goal aims to establish and promote study circles on race through the city.
The 20/20 Strategic Plan was created in 2007 with the help of more than 700 community leaders and residents.
Participants weighed in on the city’s most pressing issues and then categorized them by importance.
A conversation among community members about race was voted 11th on the list.
