BACKUP QB LEADS WARREN OVER DUMAS

By Terry Hawkins/SPECIAL TO THE COMMERCIAL
Saturday, October 11, 2008 1:08 AM CDT

WARREN — Warren back-up quarterback Trey Dannehl threw two TD passes to lead the Lumberjacks to a 20-0 halftime lead over the visiting Bobcats that held up as a shutout as both teams played without their starting quarterbacks in the scoreless second half.

Warren (3-2, 2-1) scored on a 16-yard pass from Dennehl to Rafael Moore with 2:33 left in the first quarter after Julian Fenison took a toss away from Dumas’ Matthew Moreland at the Warren 37. The extra point failed.

Dumas (2-3, 1-2) went 3-and-out and punted to the Warren 38. On the very next play, Dannehl threw 62 yards to Raheim Alford with 1:20 still left in the opening quarter. The extra point failed again.

The Bobcats gave up the ball on downs on the 19. Five plays later, Dannell connected with Alford again for 54 yards to make 18-0 with 7:22 remaining in the half. Blake Harris ran in the conversion for 20-0.

Dannehl left the game with a leg injury after throwing an interception to Dumas’ Kendall Hayes at the Bobcat 1. On the next to last play of the half, a roughing-the-passer penalty knocked out Dumas quarterback Darion Griswold.

Most of the last half was a defensive struggle, aided by turnovers. Dannehl was thought to have a slight leg sprain, the coaches said.

Dumas hosts Star City next week, while Warren travels to Fordyce.
