John Trucks
John Edward Trucks of Pine Bluff finished his earthly life Oct. 11, 2008, in Batesville, Ark. He was surrounded by his family when he went to be with his Lord and Maker, Jesus Christ.
He was born in Rison, Ark., Sept. 7, 1934, to Ancil and Charlotte Blackstock Trucks. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James David, and his first wife, Bootsie Wafford Trucks.
He is survived by one brother, Robert Trucks (Barbara); his wife, Sue Culpepper Trucks; his son, Mark Edward Trucks (Susan); daughters, Joni Michelle Trucks and Marsha Trucks Rawls (Rickey), Bobra Brown (Ellis), Deana Lohnes and Marta Lohnes; grandchildren, Brad White (Emma), Whitney Moore (Chris), Tracie Trucks, Trey Trucks (Kristen) and Leslie Trucks, Chris, Alan, Alissa and Paul Brown; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins and friends.
John played on the 1950 Rison football State Championship team. In 1953 John played minor league baseball for the Hot Springs Bathers in the Cotton State League and went on to play left field for the Harlan Kentucky Smokies and was a leading hitter with a 351 average. In the 1960s John, his brother and father went into the poultry equipment business which grew into 6 locations in Arkansas and Louisiana.
He served on Rison City Council and was a board member of Pine State Bank. He was a member of Rison Baptist Church and attended Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church. John was passionate about baseball, family and hard work. He enjoyed helping people and always had words of advice to offer.
Yet John would say that none of this was the measure of a man. John finished this life well as one of God’s own, telling as many as would listen that he loved them and that he loved Jesus more and was ready to go home.
Honorary pallbearers, remaining members of the 1950 football team; Roy Baggett, Reginald Glover, Charles Hobson, Rex Hyatt, Harold Mc-Kinney, Ray Morrison, O.D. Walker, Grady Wilson, Bobby Tucker and George Walker. Pallbearers: Bryan Trucks, Chris Trucks, Jimmy Walls, Jim Owens, Bill Young, Mike Young and Mark Young.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison with Rev. George Odell, Mr. Alan Peek and Rev. Kenny Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.

George Truhett Sr.
George Elvin Truhett, Sr., 65, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008.
Born March 20, 1943, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late James Langford Truhett and Annie Virginia Cook Truhett, he grew up in Lincoln County. A member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, he retired from Varco-Pruden after 33 years of service.
He was predeceased by two sons, George Truhett, Jr. and Danny Truhett; and a half-brother, Thomas Little.
Survivors: Wife, Imogene Hall Truhett, whom he married on March 15, 1961; children, Lloyd Truhett of Pine Bluff, Patsy Amerson of Dover, and Gail Skaggs of Car-lisle; twin brother, James Truhett of Pine Bluff; sister, Jeannette Underwood of Sheridan; half-siblings, Hershel Little of Table Rock, Mo., and Joyce Stringfellow of Pine Bluff; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services: Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., Dark Corner Cemetery at Gould.
Visitation: Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South.

Betty Hales
MONTICELLO — Betty Jane Sanders Hales, age 76, of Monticello passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Monticello, Ark. She was born in Monticello, Ark., on Aug. 16, 1932, to the late George Wesley Sanders & Clara Burton Sanders Trantham.
She was a retired church secretary and bookkeeper and was a member of the First Assembly Of God Church of Monticello. Mrs. Hales’ love was her family and going on camping trips with them. She was a former member for many years of the Second Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for 22 years.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Annie Merle Melton. Survivors include her husband, James M. Hales Sr. of Monticello; two sons, James “Jimmy” Hales, Jr. & wife, Elloise Foshee-Hales and Richard “Rick” Hales & wife, Cathy Ann all of Monticello; two sisters, Clariece Young of Viola and Mickey Barbarotto of Jackson, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly Of God Church in Monticello by Rev. Al Womack & Rev. Keith Brickell. Burial will be in the Union Ridge Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. The family will be gathering at the home of Rick & Cathy Hales.
Kevin Woods
DALLAS — Kevin Lamont Woods, son of Sullivan and Carolyn Zemmons Woods of Pine Bluff was born Aug. 1, 1978 in Little Rock, Ark. He departed this life on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in Dallas, Texas.
He attended Pine Bluff public schools and was a 2004 graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute in Grand Prairie, Texas, with a degree in automotive technology.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Flossie Woods.
He was a devoted father, son, brother and companion. He was loved dearly by all.
Left to cherish his memory are his fianc/e, Bettina Turner of Grand Prairie, Texas; son, Ky’Reon LaZale Woods of Grand Prairie, Texas; Inyra Nykole Woods of Grand Prairie, Texas; parents, Sullivan and Carolyn Zemmons Woods; grandmother, Orie Jean Jackson of Pine Bluff; brothers, Corey Brown and Bryant Woods of Pine Bluff, Ark., Sullivan Woods (Jackie) of Orlando, Fla., and Solomon Griffin Jr. (Sarah) of Rosamond, Calif..; sisters, Jalandra Woods (Reggie) of Duncanville, Texas, and Shelia Griffin Brown of DeSoto, Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Henson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. K. D. Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Henson Memorial Garden.
Visitation was held Sunday at the mortuary. The family will be at 1519 West 17th Ave.
Frances Green
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Frances Allene Brown Green, 65, of Montgomery, Ala., died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at her home.
She was born Sept. 17, 1943, in Rison, Arkansas, to Chester Brown and Leona Hall Brown Howerton.
She was reared and received her early education in Rison, Pine Bluff and Milton, Fla., where she graduated from Santa Rosa Adult Institute. She also attended Dyersburg State Junior College in Dyersburg, Tenn.
She worked as a bookkeeper, retiring from Malloy-Seidenburg C.P.A. in Laurel, Miss.
She was a Baptist and a member of A.A.R.P.
She is survived by her husband, Leon C. Green, who she married Feb. 27, 1960; two sons, Steven Green of Brookhaven, Miss., Raymond Green of Florence, Miss.; one daughter, Deborah Dean of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Emma Jo Nelson of Mabelvale; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Rev. David Leopard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's, Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.
HOT SPRINGS — Shirley Sands, 68, a resident of Hot Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. Arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. |
