James Bennett Sr.

James Edward Bennett Sr., 83, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday.

He was born April 14, 1925, in Pontiac, Mich., to the late Hariam Cornelius and Ollie Mae Wingard Bennett.

He was a retired factory worker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Also preceding him in death were his wife, Frances Bennett; a grandson, James E. Bennett III; a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Edwards; three brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include one son, James Bennett Jr. of Star City; seven daughters, Joyce Carrington, Pam Passmore, both of Star City, Shirley Randler, Mary Pennington, Betty Edwards, Patricia Goodman, Brenda Stephens, all of Pine Bluff; one sister, Ollie Gean Martin of Fort Worth, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Owens Cemetery near Star City.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Limmie Buckner

Funeral services for Limmie Buckner, 77, of Pine Bluff, who died Oct. 21, JRMC, will be Saturday 12:30 p.m., Perry Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Michael Williams officiating.

He was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Cornerstone, Ark., son of Shag and Julie T. Buckner.

He was the widower of the late Mattie Price.

Survivors: three sons, Limmie Buckner Jr., Pine Bluff, Ronny Buckner, Donny Buckner, Pine Bluff; two daughters, Stephanie Buckner, Barbara Thomas, both Pine Bluff; one brother, L.Q. Buckner, Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Amy Buckner, Greenville, Miss., Mammie Williams, Tucker, Ark., Emma Buckner, Pine Bluff; six grandchildren.

Visitations may be made today 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: P.K. Miller Cemetery by Perry Funeral Home.

Frances Clement

Frances Dee Clement, 67, a lifetime resident of Pine Bluff, Ark., passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at her home.

Born Dec. 16, 1940, in Pine Bluff, she was the only daughter of Mattie “Marie” Goldman Clement and the late Noah Dee Clement.

She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, attending Sunshine School for the handicapped.

She had been disabled from birth but did not let it hinder her. She was an active member of Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Pine Bluff. She would type letters to different people to tell them of God’s Kingdom. She enjoyed reading The Watchtower and Awake! Magazines. She also loved caring for her various house pets throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Noah Dee Clement.

She is survived by her mother and constant caregiver, Marie Clement of Pine Bluff; her aunts, RuBetty Copeland, Dorothy Smithey, both of Pine Bluff, and Emogene Vought, of Desoto, Mo.; her uncles, Sterling Goldman and Charles Goldman, both of Pine Bluff; and numerous cousins.

An informal visitation will be held Friday afternoon, Oct. 24, 2008, at Ralph Robinson & Son. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, 4015 Camden Road (Highway 79), Pine Bluff with Brother Ben Long officiating.

Inez Jackson

Mrs. Inez Johnson Jackson, 77, of Pine Bluff died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008.

Born in Pine Bluff to the late Charlie Johnson and Lessie Lovett.

Her survivors include husband, Leo Jackson Sr.; sons, Bennie Forrest, Willie Forrest, Joe Jackson, Clifton Jackson and Robert Jackson, all of Pine Bluff; stepson, Leo Jackson Jr. of Dallas; daughters, Betty Epperson of Saginaw, Mich., Jo Ann Halton of Memphis, Judy Rucker and Felicia Lee of Pine Bluff; brother, Jim Lovett of Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Celeste Daniels and Lula Lovett of Pine Bluff; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Her services will be Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at New Direction Baptist Church by Rev. Charles Moorehead at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The family will be at 4014 W. 16th Ave., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Marie Mayo

DUMAS — Mrs. Marie Mayo, 66, of Dumas died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008.

Born May 5, 1942, at Elaine, Ark., she was a daughter of Cora Smith Booker of Elaine, Ark., and the late Milton Davis.

She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church at Dumas, where she was a member of the mission board and choir.

Other survivors include her stepfather, Arthur Booker of Elaine, Ark.; five sons, Terrence Mayo of Dumas, Kevin Mayo of McGehee, Russell Mayo of Monticello, Tony Mayo of Little Rock, Mark Mayo of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Linda Thomas of East St. Louis, Ill., Erma Mayo of Detroit, Mich.; five brothers, William Davis of Indianapolis, Ind., Arthur Davis of East St. Louis, Ill., Michael Davis, Willie Davis, Darius Davis, all of Elaine, Ark.; five sisters, Wilma Norton, Georgia Moss, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Roberta Kelly of East St. Louis, Ill., Glenda Daniels and Patricia Davis of Elaine, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Her funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Mount Moriah in Dumas with Rev. J.L. Morton officiating. Burial will be in New Light Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.

Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of service.

Joan McClellan

EL DORADO — Joan McClellan, 74, of El Dorado died Wednesday.

She was a daughter of the late Chester and Velma Bryant Arthur.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie McClellan and Donnie McClellan; one daughter, Patricia Love; two sisters, Catherine Williams and Helen Baker; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, “Mack” McClellan.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Buie Funeral Home of Rison. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery at New Edinburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elise Barrett

FORDYCE — Elise Barrett, 85, of Fordyce died Sunday.

She was born at Thornton a daughter of the late Lambert and Laura Braswell.

Survivors include one son, Timothy Wimberly of Orange Park, Fla.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Cemetery at Thornton with the Rev. Thomas Brazil officiating. Arrangements are by Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce.

The family will be at the home of Florida Mae Wimberly, Route 2, 147 B, Fordyce.

Minnie Wilson

ROHWER — Minnie Louise Wilson, 95, of Rohwer, died Thursday.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Wilson, Russell Wilson and Gerald Wilson; four daughters, Mary Wilson, Bonnie Thomas, Janice Bryan and Brenda Montgomery; one sister, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kelso Cemetery. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pat Ballentine Sr.

WARREN — Pat Ballentine Sr., 69, of Warren died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital at Little Rock.

He was born May 6, 1939, in Cleveland County, a son of the late Bill Ballentine and Martha Williams Ballentine.

Survivors include one son, Pat Ballentine Jr. of Warren; two daughters, Sandy Gavin and Debbie Funderburg, both of Warren; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frazer’s Funeral Home at Warren. Burial will be in Moseley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday.

Jeanne Milton

WARREN — Jeanne K. Milton, 86, of Warren died Thursday at Bradley County Medical Center.

She was born June 19, 1922, at Shennandoah, Iowa, a daughter of the late Charles Clifford Kenworthy and Mary Sara Jane Blackburn Kenworthy.

Survivors include two sons, Robert C. Milton of Warren and Charles D. Milton of Fordyce; one daughter, Laurie Chandler of Magnolia; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home at Warren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Berniece Reed

WOODLAWN — Berniece Reed, age 69, of the Woodlawn community, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at her home. She was born May 2, 1939, in the Macedonia community, a daughter of the late Hoody and Ola Mae Puckett Herrington.

Mrs. Reed was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, a homemaker and a farmer.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Reed; two brothers, Lee Herrington and Bill Herrington.

Mrs. Reed is survived by two sons, Howard Paul Reed and John Harvey Reed of Woodlawn; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Burnett of Canton, Mich., and Catherine Plunkett of Flintville, Tenn.; five brothers, George Herrington, John Herrington, Hardy Herrington, all of Rison, Tom Herrington of Vacherie, La., and Fred Herrington of Sheridan; five sisters, Ruth Reed, Donie Mull of Rison, Ethel Golden, Cescel Luker of North Little Rock and Ola Hayes of Monticello; six grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Friendship Cemetery in Woodlawn with James Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 24, 2008. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870)325-6216.

Bettye Mullins

LAFAYETTE, La. — A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the Shepherd Hill Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark., for Bettye Mullins, age 77, who passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at 9:45 p.m. in Lafayette General Medical Center.

Rev. Harold Chandler will officiate the memorial service. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Thomas David Mullins of Pine Bluff, Ark.; three daughters, Elizabeth Duncan and her husband, Donovan of Johnson City, Tenn., Nancie Linscombe and her husband, Lance of Youngsville, La., and Marilyn Degner and her husband, Don of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one son, David Clifton Mullins and his wife, Lesleyanne of Pine Bluff, Ark.; four grandchildren, Nandi Linscombe, Hali Marshall, Eben Linscombe and Victoria Degner; and one great-grandchild, Francesca Prejean.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Clifton Clark and the former, Violet Enola McNeil; and one brother, James “Buddy” Clifton Clark, who were all from Pine Bluff, Ark.

Mrs. Mullins was a native and lifelong resident of Pine Bluff, Ark., and had resided in Lafayette for the past 10 months. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, and then attended Pines Vocational Technical School for her LPN training. Mrs. Mullins worked as an LPN for five years, then stopped working to take care of her parents and to raise her family. She enjoyed reading and was an exceptional cook, loved a hot cup of coffee and spending time with her beloved husband on their swing in the backyard. She also loved playing the piano and gardening. She will be deeply missed by all of those whom she touched through the years.

The Mullins family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nathan Landry, the staff of Cornerstone Village South, and the sixth floor nursing staff at Lafayette General Hospital for the loving care they offered Bettye in her time of need.

Jeanoras Anderson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jeanoras Anderson, 61, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Gould, Ark., died Wednesday at her home.

She was born on June 29, 1947, at Gould, a daughter of the late Elsworth and Mozell Dale.

Survivors include two sons, Noel Giles and Roy Anderson Jr., both of Kansas City; two daughters, Regenia Scott and Afton Anderson, both of Kansas City; five sisters, four brothers, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church at Gould. Burial will in Union Cemetery at Gould by Serenity Gardens Funeral Services at Dumas, Ark.

Robert Brown

TULSA, Okla. — Robert L. Brown, 53, of Tulsa, Okla., died Saturday at St. Johns Medical Center.

He was born May 12, 1955, a son of the late Robert Brown Sr. and Louvina Brown.

Survivors include three brothers, George Brown, Eddie Brown and Charles Brown; and three sisters, Fannie Green, Arnetta McGowen and Christine Page.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bailey Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Reed. Burial will be in Bold Pilgrim Cemetery by Serenity Gardens Funeral Services at Dumas.

Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carolyn Cope, 64, of Pine Bluff died Thursday at Baptist Hospital at North Little Rock. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
