Special to The Commercial

Devethia J. Deloach, an animal science major in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, is a double winner — receiving an all expense paid trip to a conference and an essay award.

The junior from Chicago knew what she wanted to do — attend the 62nd Annual Conference of the 2008 Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) Minorities in Natural Resources Committee (MINRC) in Corpus Christi, Texas. She filled out the paperwork and submitted her essay on what attending the conference would mean to her for a chance to win an all expense paid trip there. Deloach was selected to participate in the conference.

While at the conference, she was also awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for an essay on how partnerships between public, private and non-governmental organizations enhance wildlife and natural resource conservation and protection efforts.

Deloach attended workshops for valuable career development information and participated in round table discussions sharing information on selected topics relevant to employment in the field of natural resources. She checked out the career fair and attended technical sessions in her areas of interest.

She is minoring in chemistry.

When she graduates from UAPB in May 2010, Deloach plans to attend veterinary school.
