HOLIDAYS, VETERANS, ELECTION TALLY ON HAND

The holiday mood is being set at the nature center, veterans will be honored and the general election results will be certified this week.
This year, two great events, the “Tree Decorating Party for Kids” and “Christmas for the Birds” have been combined into one evening.
Scheduled for Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Delta Rivers Nature Center in Regional Park at Pine Bluff, the events are co-sponsored by the nature center and the Pine Bluff Festival Association.
Children and adults will have the opportunity to make pine-cone feeders for feathered friends during the winter season.
They will also be able to make craft ornaments for decorating the trees located inside the nature center, which will be visible to all who drive through the 12th annual Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends.
Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends will open at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 and include more than 145 displays at Regional Park.
Veterans will also be honored this week with a Veterans Day Parade Tuesday on Main Street. Beginning at 10 a.m., the parade will start at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Sponsored by the Jefferson County Veterans Services Office, the event is the first for Pine Bluff and will pay tribute to the 7,000 disabled veterans in the county as well as those who continue to fight on foreign lands.
In election news, results from the Nov. 4 general election in Jefferson County will be certified. The county election commission is expected to certify votes at 5:15 p.m. Friday.
The meeting will be held in the quorum courtroom at the Jefferson County Courthouse. The commission will also consider any appeals from patrons whose provisional ballots weren’t accepted.
Also this week:
Several agencies will be closed Tuesday in observance of Veterans’ Day including county and city offices, financial institutions and U.S. Postal Service. Waste Management of Arkansas will be open Tuesday and run garbage routes normally, a spokesman said.
Pine Bluff Rotary Club will feature the Rev. Lee Kinney as the guest speaker on Gen. Bill Creasy Day on Tuesday at noon at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Veterans will be honored Tuesday.
West Pine Bluff Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday. The program will feature Joy Blankenship, director of Pine Bluff Downtown Development, during the organization’s annual meeting at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
Wednesday at noon at the Pine Bluff Country Club, the Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff will meet. The speaker will be Kim Jones Sneed, acting program manager of the Business Development Center of Southern Good Faith Fund, speaking about the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Entrepreneurship Collaborative.
The Jefferson County Quorum Court will meet at 6 p.m. today at the courthouse. Raises for county employees to be considered.
Watson Chapel School Board will meet at 7 p.m. today at the district administration building.
Dollarway School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Townsend Park Elementary School cafeteria.
White Hall School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the district administration building. |
