GINA DEVERS RETURNS TO SERVE CITY AS INTERNAL AUDITOR

The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Gina Devers settles into her resumed position as internal auditor for Pine Bluff. Pine Bluff Commercial/Ralph Fitzgerald

That’s according to Gina Devers, Pine Bluff’s new and returning internal auditor.

She worked as the city’s internal auditor from 2001 to 2007, and then left to take another Arkansas job, until she discovered that the Pine Bluff position was open.

The former internal auditor, Alan Pyron, submitted his resignation in October, about a month after he started.

Pyron said he submitted his resignation after he received a higher-salary job offer. Mayor Carl A. Redus Jr. said he received the resignation after he learned Pyron had been disbarred from practicing law in Tennessee.

Between Devers and Pyron, the position was vacant.

Devers was one of the three finalists for the internal auditor position the first time it came open.

Finance department director Steve Miller said Devers was a great fit for the job, because of her observant nature, as well as her skill with numbers.

“I’m very pleased to have Gina back,” he said. “She brings a wealth of municipal finance experience.”

Two of Devers’ current projects includes phasing Pine Bluff’s Parks and Recreation Department’s accounting system into the city’s and utilizing a risk assessment tool, in order that the city’s controls can be improved.

A risk assessment attempts to pinpoint various activities or job responsibilities that are, or could become, a liability to the city.

Her salary comes in at about $42,000 annually.

Devers said she’s excited about getting back into the swing of things.

“I love Pine Bluff, and that may sound crazy, but it’s true,” she said. “I’m happy to be back.”
