DEATHS FOR MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2008

Lucille Martin

Mrs. Lucille Martin (nee Willis), 84, passed peacefully, Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008.

Beloved wife of Fred Martin Sr., loving mother of Willie Banks (Mildred), Detroit, Mich., Fred Martin Jr., Little Rock, Eugene Martin, Kenneth Martin, Alfred Martin and Raymond Martin, all of Pine Bluff, and Thomas Martin (Patricia) of Hamilton, Ohio; dear sister of Ezell Willis (Homeko) of San Pedro, Calif.; cherished grandmother of 20 and great-grandmother of 21.

Her services will be Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Nathaniel Mosby. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The body will lie in state at the church from 9:45 a.m. until time of service.

The family will be at 810 E. 31st Ave., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Rex Mathews

ENGLAND — Rex O. Mathews, 79, of England, Ark., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in the Hospice Home Care Inpatient Center at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 18, 1929, in Pocahontas, Ark., (Randolph County), he was a son of the late Arve L. and Nora Roberts Mathews. Mr. Mathews was reared and received his early education in Pocahontas.

On June 30, 1947, he married Betty Jean Dover in Pocahontas. After they were married, they lived in Chicago, Ill.., and then Jonesboro, Ark., moving to Pine Bluff in 1958 and then to Wright in 1994.

Mr. Mathews was a car inspector for the Cotton Belt Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Plum Bayou Baptist Church in Wright.

Mr. Mathews was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Jean Dover Mathews; his parents; and brother, Robert L. Mathews.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Ann Wilbert of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren, Holly Ray Sidwell and Curtis D. Ray, both of Pine Bluff; and one great-grandchild, Tyler W. Sidwell of Pine Bluff.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Garry Alverson officiating. Burial will follow in Cypress Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson’s. Friends may sign the online register at www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.

Alta Loveless

HELENA — Alta Loveless, 85, of Helena died Saturday. She was born Dec. 8, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Loveless; and grandchild Clay Loveless.

Survivors include three children, Jimmy (Hazel) Loveless of Benoit, Miss., Gaylan (Pam) Loveless of Elaine, and Brenda Bishop of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church of Helena by Brother Gary Henson and Rev. Larry Bishop Jr. Burial in Sunset Memorial Park at Helena by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Helena.

Visitation: 5-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Hayes

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — James Allen Hayes, 73, of North Bergen, N.J., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2008.

Mr. Hayes was born Feb. 6, 1935 to the late Al O. Hayes, Sr. and Arline Ridgway.

He was a stagehand electrician with Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Mr. Hayes enjoyed fixing and selling motorcycles and selling merchandise at Giant Stadium Flea Market.

Survivors include his sister, Margie Partyka of Kankakee, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews, James Robert Hayes of Pine Bluff, Henry Bradford of Colorado Springs, Colo., Martha Hudspeth of Memphis, Tenn., Gail Bradford of Phoenix, Ariz., and Frances Olson and Rosalind Jones, both of Pine Bluff.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors (online register: www.ralphrobinsonandson.com). A graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jim Freeman officiating.
