Alfonso Carter

Mr. Alfonso Carter, 87, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

He was born in Sherrill to the late Wille and Lynn Carter.

His survivors include sons, Al Carter, Larry Carter and Herman Carter, all of Pine Bluff; daughters, Carolyn Carter of Memphis and Loretta Wesley of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Limmie Carter of Altheimer and Sallie Carter of Pine Bluff; seven grandchildren.

His services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charles Lusk at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 6-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The family will be at 2401 N. Bell St., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Norzester Cooley

Norzester Cooley, 60, of Pine Bluff died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.

She was born in Dermott to the late R.L. Cooley and Queenester Calbert.

His survivors include son, Anthony Brown of Pine Bluff; brother, Michael Dixon of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Corthy Love and Aubery McGhee, both of Griffin, Ga.; two grandchildren.

His services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Melvin Johnson Sr. at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The family will be at 609 E. 33rd Ave., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Vester Smith Jr.

Vester “Sam” Smith Jr., 86, of Pine Bluff, died Nov. 19, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Pine Bluff, to the late Vester Smith Sr. and Ava Marie Poss Smith.

He was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff, where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1940. He joined the United States Air Corps and served during WWII.

Mr. Smith was the owner and operator of Smith Sewing Machine Repair Shop.

A graveside service will be Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, 2 p.m. at Bellwood Cemetery with Mr. Clarence Fell officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Solomon Stinson

Mr. Solomon Stinson, 62, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2008.

He was born in Chicago to the late Solomon Stinson Sr. and Ethel Pace.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Stinson.

His survivors include daughters, Tanya Stinson Collins of Pine Bluff and Claritta Stinson of Little Rock; brothers, Marion Brown of Chicago, Wheeler Conway, Larry Pace and Reginald Pace, all of Pine Bluff; sisters, Rosemary Stinson Smith of Chicago, Alberta Stinson Armour, Susan Conway and Denise Gatewood, all of Pine Bluff; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at First Trinity Church of God in Christ at 11 a.m. with Elder Reginald Pace officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is today 5-7 p.m. at Christian Way Funeral Home.

Jannette Wilkins

Mrs. Jannette Williams Wilkins, 66, of Pine Bluff was escorted to heaven by God’s angels on Nov. 14.

She was born to Mrs. Iwillie McGhee and the late Ishameal Williams on April 26, 1942, in Pine Bluff.

She was a graduate of Merrill High School.

To celebrate her precious homegoing is her husband of 45 years, Elder Frank Harold Wilkins; two brothers, Ronnie Williams and Theotis McGhee, both of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Brenda Wilson of Little Rock, Ms. Jonie Hearns of Denver, Colo., and her twin, Mrs. Annette Williams Bailey of Clemonton, N.J.; goddaughter, Tarsha Baker of Mansfield, Texas; six nieces and four nephews.

Her services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at First Trinity Church of God in Christ by Elder Lincoln Clardy. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Christian Way Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. at First Trinity Annex Building, 2900 W. Sixth Ave.

Martha Wright

Mrs. Martha Bernice Wright, 89, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

She was born in North Little Rock to the late James and Emma Burnett.

Her survivors include sons, Earmon Wright of Little Rock, Milton Wright of Killeen, Texas, Rev. Herbert Wright, Albert Wright and Freddie Wright; daughters, Edith Scott, Gracie Carter, Frances Ross, Estella Mays and Martha Pridgeon, all of Pine Bluff; sister, Hazel Robinson of Kansas City, Mo.; 40 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 53 great-great-grandchildren.

Her services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at New St. Hurricane Baptist Church by Rev. L.R. Jones at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at New St. Hurricane Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Ed Jackson

ALTHEIMER — Ed Jackson, 78, of Altheimer died Nov. 18, 2008.

He was born in Alexandria, La., to the late Ed and Susan Jackson on Aug. 19, 1930.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Jackson; daughter, Ethel Jackson; two sisters, Mary Johnson and Rose Jackson; and two brothers, Steve Bush and Joe Bush.

His survivors include wife, Ruthie Jackson of Altheimer, Ark.; seven sons, Ed Jackson Jr., Clarence Jackson and Tony Scott, all of Altheimer, Charles Jackson of Texas, Herman Jackson, Pocahontas, Ark., Jerry Scott and Edward Barnett, both of Pine Bluff; five daughters, Lestina Adway of Orange, Texas, Eddie Ruth Young of Shreveport, La., Patricia Davis of Altheimer, Ark., Frances Johnson and Cora Allen, both of Pine Bluff; three sisters, Rebecca Brisco, Christine Jackson and Verna Miles, all of Alexandria, La.; and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Altheimer at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fred Johnson officiating. Body will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Altheimer Community Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Christian Way Funeral Home.

Annie Cox

LAKE VILLAGE — Annie Mary Cox, 83, of Lake Village died Monday at Little Rock.

She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Chicot County.

Survivors include four sons, Vincent Cox, Jerome Cox, Dwight Cox and Kingston Cox; one daughter, Verona Cox; two stepsons, Benny Cox and Lloyd Cox; three brothers, Booker T. Jones, Lee Ellis and Lonnie Jones; and three sisters, Glennie Jordan, Ollie Moore and Victoria Crenshaw.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in New Cemetery by Griffin-Steele Funeral Service of Lake Village.

Lena Jeffers

MONTICELLO — Lena Ferguson Jeffers, 88, of Monticello, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.

She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Ladelle, Ark.

She was the widow of Harold Jeffers, a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Brown Ferguson and May Lee Ferguson and was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil “Buck” Ferguson.

Survivors include two sons, J.W. Jeffers of Tucson, Ariz., and Bill Jeffers of Hampton, Ark.; one daughter, Sue Stokes of Petal, Miss.; one brother, B.W. Ferguson of Conway; two sisters, Rubye Spencer of Ladelle, Ark., and Beatrice Foster of Collierville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Albrecht officiating.

Lois McKinney

RYE — Lois J. Mc- Kinney, 92, of Rye died Wednesday at Wagnon Place Nursing Home.

She was born April 17, 1916, in Cleveland County, Ark., a daughter of the late Lush H. Curry and Della Mae Taylor Curry.

Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Ashcraft of Rye and Janet Johnson of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Union United Methodist Church at Rye. Burial will be in Union Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home at Warren.

Annie McCoy

WATSON — Mrs. Annie McCoy, 91, of Watson, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at McGehee-Desha County Hospital in McGehee.

Born July 4, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Rebecca Finch.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist in Watson, where she was a past member of the choir.

Survivors include one son, Anthony McCoy of Decatur, Ill.; two daughters, Marian Watlington of Watson, Mary Williams of St. Louis, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist at Watson with Rev. James Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Porter Cemetery at Watson by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.

Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret Hodges

WILMAR — Margaret Louise Hodges, 77, of Wilmar, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Drew Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 26, 1931, in Searcy, Ark.

She was a homemaker and a member of Wilmar Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Elmer Otto Shannon and Carebell Daniels Shannon and was preceded in death by one daughter, Marca Lee; and two sons, John Hodges Jr. and Louis E. Hodges; and one sister, Carolyn Lackey.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Hodges of Wilmar; one daughter, Judith Coats of Cabot; three brothers, Charles E. Shannon of Trinidad, Texas, Roy G. Shannon of Palestine, Texas, and David L. Shannon of Willis, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilmar Baptist Church with burial in Allis Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

F. Charleston Sr.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Freddie Charleston Sr., 45, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of McGehee, Ark., died Saturday at Sutter Selano Hospital at Vellego, Calif.

He was born March 6, 1936, at McGehee, to Catherine Charleston and the late Nathaniel Charleston.

Other survivors include two sons, five daughters, four brothers, seven sisters and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at in the chapel Serenity Gardens Funeral Services of Dumas. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Arkansas City.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Beverly Clark

RIVERBANK, Calif. — Beverly Lee Morris Clark of Riverbank, Calif., formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away Nov. 15, 2008.

She was born June 25, 1960, to the late Leonard and Virginia Morris in Pine Bluff.

She is survived by her husband, George Diridoni of Riverbank, Calif.; and three sons, Gary Don Clark Jr. of Pennsylvania, Jonathan Shandy and Robbie Diridoni, both of Riverbank; and one daughter, Christina Diridoni of Riverbank; three grandchildren, Gary Don Clark III, Alana Shandy and Jasmine Doublefield; two brothers, Andy Morris and wife, Vikki of Pine Bluff and Kerry Morris and wife, Sandy of Pine Bluff; one aunt, Glenna Mae Jones of Pine Bluff; and many more relatives and friends.

She was a Baptist and attended Oasis of Hope Baptist Church in Riverbank.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Oasis of Hope Baptist Church.

Vivian Elizabeth Oliver, 89, of Pine Bluff died Wednesday at Arlington Memorial Hospital at Arlington, Texas. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
