Eleven Southeast Arkansas College students were inducted into a language honor society this week.
Alpha Mu Gamma, a national foreign language honor society, was founded in 1931 and awards students for outstanding achievement in languages with special chapter meetings and scholarship opportunities.
“They are fun to teach,” said Dr. Sara Hardin, Spanish instructor and an honor society advisor. “They did a good job.”
Qualified applicants have an outstanding record of achievement in their first two years of study.
SEARK associate members include Chiquita Compton, Adam Cox, Gabrielle Cain, Lana Foster, Angela Hill, Leigh Pearce, Elizabeth Resinger, Karen Shannon, Nancy Webb, Feral West and Andrea Wilkins. Trevia Moss is an honorary member.
Hardin said her students use their honor society to explore culture as well as volunteer time to service projects.
Members collect items for domestic abuse shelters. They collected about 8,000 items last year.
“I just love my students,” Hardin said. “My passion in life is teaching ... besides my family.”
