TWO PB RESIDENTS KILLED, THREE HURT IN ACCIDENT NEAR STUTTGART

A mother and her daughter from Pine Bluff were killed Thursday in a two-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. 79 north of Stuttgart. Three others, including a Pine Bluff man, were injured in the crash.

A preliminary report from the State Police said Maurice E. Spain, 82, and Deana K. Spain, 55, both of Pine Bluff, died in the accident which was reported at 4:15 p.m. James T. Spain, 83, of Pine Bluff was injured and taken to a Little Rock hospital.

Trooper Billy McCradic reported that a 2005 Nissan driven by Adam L. Smith, 17, was northbound on U.S. 79 when his car crossed the center line and struck a 2005 Honda driven by Deana Spain that was southbound.

Adam Smith and Ayla Smith, 13, both of Biscoe were injured and taken to hospitals at Little Rock.

The weather was clear and the roadway dry when the accident was reported, McCradic reported.

The two deaths bring to 532 the number of people who have died on Arkansas highways so far this year.
