Kathryn Butcher
Kathryn Butcher, 56, of Pine Bluff, Ark. passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at her home, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born Feb. 16, 1952, at Fort Hood, Texas, she was one of three daughters of Everett E. Smith and the late Mary Elizabeth Allen Smith. She was reared and received her early education in Louisiana, California, and Pine Bluff, attending and graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1970.
She held various jobs while her children were young. She studied Histology at N.C.T.R, and was a licensed histologist at Jefferson Regional Medical Center and at Baptist Medical Health Center in Little Rock. She received a degree in secondary education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
She taught high school English and Oral Communication at Rison High School and at Watson Chapel Junior High School. While at Rison High School, she also served as the yearbook sponsor.
She was an active member of Family Church, of White Hall, Ark. She served as a Deacon, a team leader with Hospitality, and was also a member of the Bob and Nancy Rawlinson Life Group. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, as well as a former member of the Arkansas Teachers Association. She participated in many activities over the years including square dancing and was an active member of a local bowling league.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her former husband and father of her children, Steven Parmer; and by her husband Floyd Butcher in 2007.
She is survived by her father, Everett Smith, of Pine Bluff; her son Jeffrey Alan Parmer, and his children Gianna and Adam, of Sherwood, Ark.; her daughter Angela Marie Mazanti and husband Mark, their children, Sarah, Ethan, and Alex, of Memphis, Tenn.; her stepson, Brock Butcher, of Cushing, Okla.; her stepdaughter Niki Day, of Cushing, Okla.; her sisters Cheryl Jaggars and Billie Rodgers and husband David, all of Pine Bluff; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Hayden; two nephews, Bryan and Matthew Rodgers, both of Pine Bluff; one niece, Kelly Bolen, of Pine Bluff; two great nieces and one great nephew.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Robinson's. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Tony Lawhon officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Friends may sign the online register at www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.

Deana Kay Spain
Deana Kay Spain, age 55, of Pine Bluff,died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Arkansas County.
Deana was born Oct. 7, 1953, at Pine Bluff, a daughter of James Thomas Spain of Pine Bluff and Maurice Elder Spain, and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1971. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College at Conway, had been a teacher and was co-manager of Wendy's Restaurant at Stuttgart for the past several years.
Other survivors include: her brother, James R. Spain and wife, Virginia of Ashdown; her sister, Cathy Spain Glover and husband, Rick of Clarendon; and the younger generation of the family: Rickey Glover Jr.; Suzanne Spain Ward and husband, Josh; Sarah Catherine Glover; James Thomas Spain II; Ryne Elder Glover; and Caroline Shepherd Spain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Moseley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maurice Elder Spain
Maurice Elder Spain, age 82, of Pine Bluff, and her daughter, Deana Kay Spain, age 55, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Arkansas County.
Maurice was born Feb. 11, 1926, at Manning (Dallas County), Ark., a daughter of the late Harvey Bernard Elder and Geneva Bettis Elder. She was a graduate of Fairview High School at Camden and Arkansas State Teachers College at Conway. A long-time member of First United Methodist Church, she served as director of the children’s Sunday school for 22 years and had resided in Pine Bluff since 1956.
Two brothers, Harvey Bernard Elder, Jr. and Carroll Dean Elder also predeceased her.
Survivors include: her husband, James Thomas Spain, whom she married on July 9, 1950 at Smackover; her son, James R. Spain and wife, Virginia of Ashdown; her daughter, Cathy Spain Glover and husband, Rick of Clarendon; her sister, Maxine Shoffner of Arlington, Texas; and her grandchildren: Rickey Glover Jr.; Suzanne Spain Ward and husband, Josh; Sarah Catherine Glover; James Thomas Spain II; Ryne Elder Glover; and Caroline Shepherd Spain.

Dorothy Loudon Vick
Dorothy Loudon Vick, age 96, of Pine Bluff, passed away at Arkansas Convalescent Center Thursday, Nov. 23, 2008.
She was born March 6, 1912, at Pine Bluff, daughter of Lewis Shanks Loudon and Madge Pickering Loudon.
Mrs. Vick was reared and received her early education at Swan Lake, Ark., later moving to Pine Bluff and attended Pine Bluff High School. She graduated from the St. Joseph Catholic Annunciation Academy in 1929.
She was a member and soloist in the Christian Science Church for many years. In her early years, she won first place in the Radio Atwater Kent Contest for the State of Arkansas, and won second place competing with six other state contestants. The depression years came along about this time, but she still enjoyed singing in her own city.
Mrs. Vick worked 33 years for General Waterworks Corporation, later the name changed to United Water. She was a member of Pine Bluff Musical Coterie, worked with the Community Concert Association for many years, was a member of the Pilot Club for over 60 years, and also was a RSVP caller for many years.
She was the widow of John Vick, who died Dec. 3, 1988, and a sister of Virginia Puddephatt, who died Sept. 2, 1996.
Survivors include her goddaughter, Linda Witherspoon of Longview, Texas; godson, Tom K. Hervey of Waco, Texas; and caregiver, Ruth Soffos of Pine Bluff.
There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

Dorothy Sipes Bailey
LITTLE ROCK — Dorothy Sipes Bailey, 83, formerly of Pine Bluff, now living in Little Rock, Ark., died, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at St. Vincent Infirmary.
She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Rowell to Alvin and Carrie Dalton Sipes.
She was reared and educated in Woodlawn.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff and Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bacel, A.J., Jack and Thurman Sipes; and three sisters, Merle Sipes, Myrtis Turner, and Jerline Graves.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lavoy "KL" Bailey whom she married on March 27, 1943, in Rowell; a daughter, Wanda Ray (Floyd) of Brinkley; a sister, Janette Cash of Little Rock; a grandson, Bryan Ray of Little Rock; a granddaughter, Keri Burroughs (Jeff) of Brinkley; two great-grandchildren, Macy and Zack Burroughs; and a special niece, Pat Ryan of Little Rock.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. at Robinson's.
Services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Mike Cottrell and Rev. Royce Lowe officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Robert Huddleston
LITTLE ROCK — Robert Lawton Huddleston, passed away Nov. 27, 2008, at Parkview Rehabilitation Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Laura Huddleston; sister, Dean Poston; wife, Lois E. Bennett Huddleston; and their son Richard Huddleston.
Surviving family are his brother, Joe Huddleston of Pine Bluff, Ark.; his daughter, Wanda Jo Huddleston Linsley and son-in-law James Linsley of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandsons, Justin Linsley, Eric Linsley and Kevin Linsley; a granddaughter, Katherine Huddleston Py; and one great-grandson, Richard Pye.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, (501)224-8300. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Cypress Memorial Gardens, Pine Bluff, Ark.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the funeral home.

Cecil Oglesby
SPRINGHILL, La. — Funeral services for Mrs. Cecil Hudson Oglesby, age 86, will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Bailey Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Walter Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Stamps, Ark., under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, La.
Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, La.
Mrs. Oglesby was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Emerson, Ark., to Ward and Eva McMahen Hudson and passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in Haynesville, La. She was a lifelong resident of this area, member of Springhill United Methodist Church and retired from the Pine Bluff International Paper Company after 25 years as executive secretary. Mrs. Oglesby was a loving parent, housewife, talented painter and expert bridge player. She also received an associate degree from Southern State University in Magnolia, Ark.
She is survived by her son, Scott Oglesby and wife, Ann of New York City, N.Y.; daughter, Rhonda Coullet of Berne, N.Y.; and her brother, Larry Hudson and wife, Marjorie, of Lewisville, Ark.; step-mother, Corene Hudson, of Magnolia, Ark.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Oglesby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace Oglesby; two sisters, Alverne Morgan and Virgina Bradley; and two brothers, Ronald and Randy Hudson.
The family wishes to especially thank the care manager, Jan Goodman; sitter, Janis Cole; and the staff of Heritage Nursing Center for their loving care over the years.
Pallbearers will be Scott Oglesby, Murray Morgan, Larry Hudson, Kent Cage, Roy Spence and Charlie Park.
