Cynthia Proffitt
FORDYCE — Cynthia Lynn Proffitt, 40, of Fordyce died Friday at Dallas County Medical Center at Fordyce.
She was born May 14, 1968, at Warren, a daughter of Henrietta Overton Carter of Warren.
Other survivors include her husband, Chris Proffitt; one son, Carter Glenn Proffitt of Fordyce; one daughter, Chelsea Lynn Proffitt of Fordyce; one sister, Cathy Withers of Warren; and her grandmother, Loretta Overton Talbert of Benton.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Frazer’s Funeral Home at Warren. Burial: Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Laura Smith
MCGEHEE — Laura Leona Smith, 83, of McGehee died Friday at her home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1925, at Mora, Minn., a daughter of the late Carl Dixon and Sadie Dixon.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Smith and Tommy Smith; three daughters, Kathy Jones, Claudia Miller and Milissa Gober; one brother, Maurice Dixon; one sister, Dixie Sweatman; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McGehee First Assembly of God Church.
Garland Adcock
MONTICELLO — Garland “Garvin” Adcock, 96, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Bryant Health Care in Bryant.
He was born March 24, 1912, in Chicot County, Ark., the son of the late Edgar Ernest Adcock and Virginia Elizabeth Barnett Adcock.
Survivors include three sons, Ernest Adcock and wife, Daisy Mae of Wilmar, William Adcock and wife, Marie of Hamburg, and Charles Adcock and wife, Dovie of Bryant; one daughter, Ella Mae Gorman of Destrehan, La.; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Green Hill Baptist Church. Burial in Rash Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mollie Shelby
ROWELL — Mollie Simms Shelby, age 99, of Rowell, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the Cleveland County Nursing Home.
She was born April 16, 1909, in Linden, Tenn., a daughter of the late Thomas and Elenora Brown.
Mrs. Shelby was a homemaker and a member of Center Missionary Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Morgan Simms and Grady Shelby; son, Gerald Kenneth Simms; daughter, Marie Ruth Briant.
Mrs. Shelby is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Calvin N. Terry of Pansy, Faye and Lloyd Bradley of Woodlawn, Ray Briant of Rowell; eight grandchildren, Sandra Burr, Belinda Allred, Clifton Briant, Kenneth Briant, Brady Terry, Judy Pennington, Jimmy Bradley and Dennis Bradley; 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Center Missionary Baptist Church at Rowell with Brother Doney Blackerby and Brother Calvin N. Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Rowell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2008, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.
Pallbearers are Dennis Bradley, Jimmy Bradley, Brady Terry, Kenneth Briant, Clifton Briant, Kyle Pennington, Jerry Pennington and Ethan Pennington.

Myrtis Tucker
SHERIDAN — Myrtis Veda Shoptaw Tucker of Sheridan, Ark., was born Aug. 10, 1915, at the Detonti community in Grant County, the daughter of the late Samuel Jtilden and Nancy Adeline Gillis Shoptaw.
She was a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School Class of 1936.
Mrs. Tucker died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lenord Henry Tucker, to whom she married Feb. 8, 1937; brothers, George Carl Shoptaw, Curtis Basil Shoptaw, Jewell Nathan Shoptaw, Louis Howard Shoptaw and Cletis Shoptaw.
Survivors include her sons, Louis Carroll Tucker and wife, Hazel, of Pine Bluff, John Samuel Tucker and fianc/, Doneva Buckley, of Sheridan; daughters, Marilyn Annette and husband, William E. Fiser, of Sheridan and Alice Elaine Law and husband, Charley Garcia, of Galveston, Texas; grandchildren, Sandra L. and husband, Jerry Graves, of Watson Chapel, Henry C. Tucker, of Pine Bluff, Melissa A. Crawford of Visalia, Calif., James I. King of Sheridan, Christopher and wife, Sarah Tucker of Plano, Texas, Dawn L. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Clyde Chenault officiating. Burial will be in Jones-Palestine Cemetery.

Terry Graham
STAR CITY — Terry Gene Graham, 48, of Star City died Saturday.
He was born Aug. 17, 1960, in Lincoln County, a son of Bonnie Hunsaker Graham and the late J.P. Graham.
Other survivors include one son, John P. “P.J.” Graham IV; two daughters, Mandy Hunsucker and Sherry Morrissey; one brother, Rickey Graham; one sister, Debbie Jenkins; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Griffin Funeral Service at Star City. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Yorktown.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary Pearce
STAR CITY — Mary Frances Pearce, 60, of Star City died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include one son, David Pearce; two daughters, Sandra Denise Truman and Kimberly Michelle McHughes; one brother, Odis Barnett; one sister, Sue Kimbrell; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Enon Cemetery near Rye. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
Visitation will be from 6-8 today at the funeral home.
Rev. Melvin Savage of Pine Bluff died Sunday at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Henson Mortuary. |
