Pauline McAdams
Pauline B. Odom McAdams, age 93, of Pine Bluff, received her wings and went to be with the Lord she loved so much on Dec. 5, 2008.
Born Sept. 30, 1915, at Kosciusko, Miss., to the late Ollie and Bessie Suddarth Odom, Pauline was predeceased by her husband, G.H. McAdams; brothers, Walter, Leland and Marshall Odom; and five sisters, Nanny Mae, Ollie Vea, Betty, Alma and Lee.
Pauline was a longtime member of the Apostolic Church led by the Rev. Marvin Rutledge. She was retired from Pinecrest Cotton Mill.
Survivors include sisters, Delance Chunn and Gladys McMillan; brother, Herbert Odom; her children, Sara Gregory, Charles McAdams, Beatrice Phillips, Daisy Baugh and John McAdams. “Granny Mac” was admired and loved by 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and church friends.
Family graveside services will be held in Hurricane Cemetery at Kosciusko, Miss. Arrangements in Pine Bluff were by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.

Jimmie Vickers
HOT SPRINGS — Jimmie Knowles Vickers, 77, of Hot Springs died Friday.
She was born Feb. 19, 1931, at Warren, a daughter of the late Arthur D. Knowles and Lucy Ricks Knowles.
Survivors: sons, Rick Vickers of Muskogee, Okla., and Steve Vickers of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Kathy Vickers of Hot Springs; brother, Claude Knowles of Hermitage; sister, Anita Stuard of Sumpter; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gross Funeral Home at Hot Springs.
Burial: 2 p.m. in Adams Singer Cemetery at Warren by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at Gross Funeral Home.

Mozell Carpenter
MARIETTA, Ga. — Mrs. Mozell Ramsey Carpenter, 88 of Marietta, Ga., formerly of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008.
She was born to the late Oscar Ramsey and Rosie Louis in Jefferson Springs, Ark.
Her survivors include sister, Marie Carter; sons, Nathaniel Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter, Eli Carpenter, Riley Carpenter, Elijah Carpenter Jr., Abraham Carpenter Sr., and Curtis Jackson; daughters, Willie Mae Edward, Laura Tolbert, Elizabeth Yarbrough, Roseine Ficklin, Josephine Watson, Emma Burr, Elisa West, Bernice, Mattie Craig and Loraine Green.
Her services will be today, Dec. 6, 2008, at Faith-n-Action Ministry Church, formerly St. James United Methodist Church, at 316 S. Poplar St., Pine Bluff, Ark., by Pastor Elijah Carpenter Jr., at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery on Princeton Pike by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Jesse Marshall Jr.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Dr. Jesse Edward Marshall Jr., a distinguished and dedicated public servant, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, in Greensboro, N.C.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 600 E. Florida St., in Greensboro.
As an outstanding educator and administrator, the former vice chancellor for student affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University influenced and inspired both students and professional colleagues.
During more than half a century while working in the Crossett, Ark., public school system and at Arkansas Mechanical and Normal College (UAPB), Alabama State University and A&T State University, Dr. Marshall was committed to personal growth and excellence.
His educational accomplishments included a bachelor of science in chemistry from AM&N College, a master of science in guidance from Indiana University, a doctor of philosophy in education from Indiana University and membership in Phi Delta Kappa.
Dr. Marshall was a devoted church member and lay leader. At St. Matthews United Methodist Church he was chairman of the Trustee Board.
He also was a member of the Administrative Board, the Finance Committee, the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee and the Chancel Choir.
Ever active in community and civic affairs, Dr. Marshall served for many years on boards of The Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Greensboro Urban Ministry, and Oak Ridge Military Academy.
He also cherished memberships in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Greensboro Civitan Club, Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Crime Stoppers and several other organizations, while additionally supporting the North Carolina Special Olympics.
Born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Aug. 20, 1917, to Jesse Edward Marshall Sr. and Eliska Pickens Marshall, he was the first of five children. He and brothers Joseph, Alexander and Arthur and sister Sarah lived in a loving, hardworking household that was filled with music.
During World War II he was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, recording service in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters.
After the war he was released from service as a first lieutenant, and he later retired from the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel.
Dr. Marshall is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Lee Clark.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica M. Brooks of Atlanta; his son, Mihlford C. Marshall of Greensboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Marshall of New York; a host of nieces and nephews and friends, and his devoted companion Hattie Manning of New York.
