B&J JEWELERS CELEBRATES 125 YEARS IN PINE BLUFF
By Tirzah Pope/SPECIAL TO THE COMMERCIAL
B&J Jewelers is commemorating 125 of business in Pine Bluff.
Mae Abrams, wife of Myron Abrams, business owners, recently expressed her gratitude for their loyal customers’ business over the years.
“It is so nice to be a part of people's happiest moments in life,” she said, referring to such celebrations as weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays.
“We love what we do and owe our successes to our customer base,” she said in explaining the store’s longevity and success.
Many customers belong to families that have been shopping with the store for five generations, she said.
While Abrams expressed gratitude to those who have kept the store in business doing what they love, she also wanted to celebrate the family members who have come before her. Abrams then told the story of the Grandfather clock at the back of the store.
The clock was part of Babette Gottlieb’s dowry when she married her husband, the founder of B&J Jewelers, Max Gottlieb, in Germany during the late 1800s. The clock found its way across the Atlantic and into the original store, which was located on Main Street 125 years ago.
Through the years, many family members were committed to providing quality jewelry to their clients, but Abrams especially wanted to express her fond memories of Babette Abrams, who moved the store to its current location on West 28th Avenue 25 years ago.
She explained that it is family members like “Babs” who she also wanted to celebrate this month during their Founder's Day observance.
The Abrams is celebrating the anniversary the entire month of December. Store hours of business are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Details: Call 534-1320. |
