Allie Mae Ferrell
Allie Mae Ferrell, 96, of Pine Bluff, died Dec. 16, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 24, 1912, at Pine Bluff to the late Frank Shine and Florence Wiley Shine.
She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors: 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Harrison officiating. Burial: Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-7 p.m. Friday at Henson Mortuary at Pine Bluff.
The family will be at 6714 Camden Cutoff Road.
Lillie Mae Helloms
Mrs. Lillie Mae Helloms, 87, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008. She was born in Reydell to the late Will Davis and Mary McFadden.
Her survivors include, sons, Carl Lowe Sr., Rev. Charles Helloms Jr., Rev. Willie Helloms Sr., and Rev. Johnnie Dorn; daughter, Josephine Dorn, all of Pine Bluff; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great-grandchildren.
Her services will be Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at New Morning Star Baptist Church by Rev. James Wilkerson at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Prairie Lake Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The body will lie in state from 9:45 a.m. until time of service.
The family will be at 1311 East 26th St., Pine Bluff, Ark.
J.B. Steward
Mr. J.B. Steward, 67, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008. He was born in Tamo to Rosie Curry of Pine Bluff and the late Samuel Steward.
His survivors include sons, Arthur Steward of Pine Bluff, Charlie Roland of Memphis, and Javaris Steward of Lancaster, Texas; daughters, Latonia Brown and Clara Steward-Holley both of Pine Bluff; brother, Harold Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
His services will be Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at New Birth Christian Church by Rev. Samuel Williams at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the V.A. Section of Graceland. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The family will be at 2206 Beau Monde St., Pine Bluff, Ark.
Artelia Binns
DUMAS — Mrs. Artelia Binns, 69, of Dumas, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1939, in Dumas, Ark., she was a daughter of the later Sterling and McLessie Holden Binns. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Dumas, a retired employee of Dumas School District and a home maker.
She is survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at Mt. Moriah M.B.C. with Rev. J.L. Morton officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery at Backgate by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
John Williams Jr.
GOULD — Mr. John Williams Jr., 83, of Gould, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at McClellan Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.
Born July 8, 1925, in Grady, Ark., he was a son of he late John Williams, Sr., and Naomi Moore. He was a member of Auburn Baptist Church in Gould where he served as superintendent of Sunday school, Sunday school teacher, retired teacher Dermott School District and served 28 years in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one sister, Rubie Lee Hawkins of Gould, Ark., and a nephew whom he raised, Samuel King of Gould.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Gould with Rev. Jimmy Bynum officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Jericho Cemetery in Gould by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service.
William Waldron
LITTLE ROCK — William H. Waldron, 61, of Little Rock, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008. Born June 18, 1947, in Pine Bluff, he was the son of James A. and Edna Boyce Waldron. He graduated from the University of Central Arkansas, and in 1978, established his business, Capitol Advertising Specialties. Bill was an amazing Dad, a loyal friend to many and always there when needed. He enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader and gardener, an excellent cook and a master vintner. He was a canteen member and volunteer at VFW Post 9095.
Bill is survived by his loving companion, Donna Hartsfield; son, David Waldron (Anna) of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Suzanne Waldron of Little Rock; mother, Edna Waldron of Pine Bluff; brother, James A. Waldron (Elizabeth) of Little Rock; and his aunt, Ruth Butcalis of Pine Bluff. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Luna, and three grand-dogs.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to remember Bill’s life on Friday, Dec. 26, from 4-6 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CARTI, the Perryville Volunteer Fire Department or to a charity of oneõs choice.

James Wooley
MIDWAY — Funeral Mass for James Virgil “Jim” Wooley of Midway, Ark., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, with Rev. James Fanrak officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 26 with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Kirby & Family Funeral Home.
Jim Wooley died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Mountain Home at the age of 63.
He was born Sunday, March 25, 1945, in Pine Bluff, Ark., son of Virgil and Mary Louise Gardner Wooley. He married Betty Fratesi on Dec. 30, 1967, at Pine Bluff, Ark.
Jim worked for the International Paper Co. and retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a Quality Control Inspector. Jim Wooley was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam and lived in Midway since 1996 moving from Pine Bluff, Ark.
He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and the Rivercliff Golf Club. Jim Wooley is survived by his wife, Betty Wooley, 1 son, Randy (Shannon) Wooley of Little Rock, Ark., 2 grandsons, Andrew and Michael Wooley, 1 granddaughter, Olivia Wooley, 2 sisters, Dorothy (Carr Lee) Chambers of Glendale, Ark., and Donna Bray of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Burial will be in the Kirby’s Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Ark., with Gary Griffin, Pat Finn, Robert Fratesi, Jr., Robert Fratesi, Sr., Jack Fouts and C.W. Crandall as pallbearers. Pauline Puls
MONTICELLO — Pauline Puls, age 94, of Monticello, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center. She was born Jan. 31, 1914 in Monticello.
She was the widow of Louis A. Puls, a member of Church of Christ, a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. Chambers and Patsy Patrick Chambers.
Survivors include five brothers, Rudolph Chambers of Longview, Texas; Felix Chambers of Plano, Texas; Lawrence Chambers of Royce City, Texas; D.W. Chambers of Monticello; and Bill Chambers of Jasper, Texas.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home, with burial in Union Ridge Cemetery, with military honors.

James W. Thurmon
WILMAR — James Willis (Snoop) Thurmon, age 60, of Wilmar, passed away Friday at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Wilmar.
He worked for Maxwell Flooring and was a member of Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi Thurmon and Cariola Simmons Thurmon.
Survivors: brother, Levi Thurmon, of Monticello; two sisters, Irma L. Tate, of Crossett, and Etha M. Jackson, of Warren.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home, burial in Wilmar Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John Phifer
DES MOINES — John P. Phifer, 52, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn’s Chapel 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines.
John grew up in Pine Bluff, Ark. and had lived in Des Moines for 23 years. He worked in the Information Technology field for the Iowa Foundation for Medical Centers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, music and Cardinals baseball.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife of 32 years, Peggy Phifer of Des Moines; mother, Carolyn Phifer of Bryant, Ark.; four children, Tim (fianc/e, Nicolle) of Des Moines, Tom (Kortney) of Alabaster, Ala., Eric and Wendy of Des Moines; grandson, Jonas Phifer; brother, Grant (Thea) Phifer of Arvada, Colo., and sister, Karen Melhorn of Benton, Ark.
