Darnell Brooks
Mr. Darnell Louis Brooks, 30, of Pine Bluff died Dec. 30, 2008. He was the son of Louis and Patricia Brooks. Born in Pine Bluff on May 25, 1978, he was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors: father, Louis Brooks, Pine Bluff; mother, Patricia Whaley Brooks; sister, Danyelle Brooks, Pine Bluff.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Steven King at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Section, Graceland Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The body will lie in state at the church from 12:15 p.m. until time of service.
The family will be at the home of Patricia Brooks, 1521 S. Nebraska St., Pine Bluff.
Sammie Holmes
Sammie Holmes, age 91, of Pine Bluff, died at her home Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. Mrs. Holmes was born July 8, 1917, in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Greely A. and Iva Reid Rauls.
Mrs. Holmes was reared and received her education in Cleveland County and Pine Bluff.
She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Pitt Holmes, whom she married Aug. 26, 1937, at Pine Bluff. She was also the last survivor of ten children.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Bonnie Rauls of Pine Bluff; four nieces, Gayle Vardaman of White Hall, Debbie Reynolds of Bella Vista, Leann Gibbons of Pine Bluff and Eddie Lynn Dildy of Mt. Ida; two nephews, David Rauls of Memphis, Tenn., and Phillip Rauls of Redmond, Wash.
Funeral services will be graveside in Graceland Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, by Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jim Brooks officiating.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive Street, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71601.

Mable Eggburn
DeWITT — Mable Irene James Eggburn, 88, of DeWitt died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at DeWitt Nursing Home. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Eggburn; parents, William Franklin and Nettie Malone James; brothers Orba James, Presley James; and granddaughter, Mariah Tibbett.
Survivors include her son, Douglas Eggburn (Pat) of Sheridan; daughters, Frances Looney (Jesse) and Susie Tibbett (Dan) of DeWitt; grandchildren Mitch and Brent Eggburn, Christi Gray, Jon Looney, Zack Tibbett, Abby Gibson; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to DeWitt Nursing Home or charity of choice.
Edna Godfrey
JOHNSVILLE — Edna Hazel Edwards Godfrey, 86, of Johnsville died Sunday at Bradley County Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1922, in Bradley County, a daughter of the late Harvey Oliver Edwards and Lillie Edna Jones Edwards.
She was a member of Martins Chapel United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mansfield Godfrey; and two brothers.
Survivors include daughter Nina Kay Outlaw; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services 10 a.m. Tuesday at Frazer’s Funeral Home. Burial in Prattsville Cemetery near Hermitage.
Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Lorene Pierce
MALVERN — Lorene Pierce, age 73, of Malvern passed away Saturday, in Little Rock. She was born April 18, 1935 in Sheridan, Ark., a daughter of the late Odis and Lucille Robinson Walters.
Survivors are two sons, Cloise (Pam) Hamm, Timmy Hamm; two daughters, Betty (Michael) Boehm, Jo Ann (George) Draper; brother, Dean (Marie) Walters; sister, Florene (Hays) Swayze; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

Winford McKinney
SUMPTER — Winford Leon McKinney, 73, of Sumpter died Saturday at home.
He was born Jan. 4, 1935, at Warren, a son of the late Nick McKinney and Mildred Childress McKinney.
He was a member of Martin Chapel United Methodist Church and a retired chip mill supervisor for Potlatch, Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Earlene Senn Mc-Kinney; son Jimmy Leon McKinney; daughters Mildred Ann Foster and Reecia Ree Dunaway; brothers Robert McKinney and Clifton McKinney; eight grandchildren.
Funeral services 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frazer’s Funeral Home. Burial in Outlaw Cemetery.
Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Jerry Hopkins
WHITE HALL — Jerry Marshall Hopkins, 73, a resident of White Hall, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
Born June 27, 1935, in Watson, Ark., he was a son of Wiley and Mary Frances Bell Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. He was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, and attended Arkansas A&M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, before joining the United States Navy. He served as a radar technician aboard the carrier U. S. S. Franklin Delano Roosevelt from 1956-60.
Mr. Hopkins worked thirty years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He then worked part-time in security for Simmons First National Bank. He was also a member of the Jefferson County Mounted Patrol. Jerry Marshall Hopkins married Alpha de Guzman on June 7, 1980, in Pine Bluff.
Mr. Hopkins was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he taught the Junior Boys and Senior Adult Sunday School classes.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Deveny Hopkins; twin brother, James Hopkins; step-father Hershel Lloyd; one step-sister, Cathy Lloyd Vardaman; his aunt and uncle, Clarence and Thelma Peebles, who raised him.
Survivors include his wife Alpha Hopkins of White Hall; two sons, Marshall J. Hopkins of Little Rock, and Matthew Hopkins of San Diego, Calif.; step-son, Neil Devine of Chicago; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Edward S. And Rebecca Lyn Devine of San Diego, Randy and Jenny Deveny of Little Rock, Royce and Blanche Deveny of Spring, Texas, Richard and Barbara Deveny of Corinth, Texas, brother, Charles Lloyd of McGehee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Sandra Lloyd and Ronald and Ann Lloyd, all of McGehee; sister, JoAnn Wynne of McGehee; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Warren Collins of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren.
The visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Don Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in McGehee Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.
