Virginia Garman
Virginia Smith Garman, 89, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Trinity Village Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Pine Bluff, daughter of the late Carey F. and Jewel Thornton Smith.
Mrs. Garman was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1936 and from Judkins Business College in 1938.
She co-owned and operated Garman’s Cleaners with her husband, the late George W. Garman Sr., whom she married Aug. 2, 1940, in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Garman was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and a past Sunday school teacher.
She was also preceded in death by her son, George William “Bill” Garman Jr.; and sister, Mary Nell Wilcox.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Betty Hollis Garman of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, George William “Bill” Garman III of Denver, Colo., Leslie Reagor and her husband, Murry of Little Rock; and Jenny Ross and her husband, Brian of Little Rock; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Don Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson’s.

Cheryl Garrett
Cheryl E. Garrett, 37, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center at Little Rock.
She was a daughter of Lillie Walker and the late Jessie Robinson.
Other survivors: husband, Tyrone Garrett; daughters, Quanika Washington, Deerica McBride and Akirah Garrett, all of Pine Bluff; one brother, Marco Bankston of Pine Bluff; and three sisters, Trina Robinson and Kendra Franklin, both of Pine Bluff, and Roshawanda Robinson of Carlton, Texas.
Funeral services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Main Street Church of God in Christ with Elder Joe Stocker officiating. Burial: Forest Lawn Memorial Garden by Pine Bluff Mortuary Co.
Cleon Singleton
Cleon Singleton, 55, of Pine Bluff died Dec. 30 at his home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1953, at Pine Bluff, a son of Emma Monk of Pine Bluff and the late Robert Singleton Sr.
Survivors: daughters, Sherrie Fluker, Melanie Singleton, Pine Bluff; brothers, Lecester Johnson Jr., Levester Johnson, Roosevelt Monk Jr., Roderick Monk, Terry Singleton, Clifford Singleton, Pine Bluff, and Robert Singleton Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Ruby Gilmore, Gloria Hayes, Beverly Monk, Betty Monk, Pine Bluff; stepfather, Roosevelt Monk Sr., Pine Bluff; two grandchildren.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Henson Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Warren Booker officiating. Burial: Forest Lawn Memorial Garden.

Pearl Wilson
Pearl Peden Wilson, age 101, of Pine Bluff, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.
Born Nov. 10, 1907, at Glasgow, Ky., to Moses and Myrtle Peden, her family moved to Arkansas in 1919.
She dedicated her life to the Lord at the early age of 10 years, and was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church for many years. She was a graduate of Watson Chapel High School and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Wilson retired from Dillard’s at the age of 75.
She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers; one sister; husband, Floyd P. Wilson; and a son, Orville Gene Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her son, Floyd Wilson Jr. and wife Floy Gene; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with Brother M.L. Faler officiating.

Undean Reed
DUMAS — Mrs. Undean Mobley Reed, 86, of Dumas, Ark., born Feb. 18, 1922, in Briggsville, Ark., the daughter of the late Joseph and Nola Mobley.
Mrs. Reed was a member of First Baptist Church and a homemaker died Jan. 3, 2009, and was predeceased by her husband, Carl Reed.
Survivors are daughters, Donnie (Robert) Robertson, Tillar, Ark., and Betty (Buddy) Bradshaw; brother, J.W. Mobley, all of Benton, Ark.; and sister, Sarah Venable, Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: Jan. 7 at 2 p.m., Griffin Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: 1 p.m. until services at 2. Burial in Walnut Lake Cemetery.

Bonnie Poe
SHERIDAN — Bonnie Hamner Poe of Sheridan, Ark., was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Sheridan, the daughter of the late Henry Olin and Gladys Marie Epnett Hamner.
She was a member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Poe died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff at the age of 79.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Razza Poe; and a son, Michael Olin Poe.
Survivors: daughter, Judy Davis and husband Wayne of Sheridan; sisters, Nellie Wagner and husband, Jim of Sheridan, Margaret Harrington and husband L.C. of Sheridan; grandchildren, Terri Brookshier and husband Delbert, Tina Fleming and husband Derric, Chelsea MacDonald and husband Bill, Jennifer Fruge’ and husband Allen, Christopher Poe; great-grandchildren, Michelle and Nathan Brookshier, Danielle, Bay and Carson Fleming, Rachel, Lauren and Michaela Rodriguez, Zachary MacDonald, Jenna Lane Fruge’ and Addison Marie Poe.

Notie Harris
WARREN — Notie Frances Harris, 99, of Warren, formerly of the Green Hill Community in Drew County, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Bradley County Medical Center in Warren.
She was born May 13, 1909 in Bradley county.
She was the widow of Doyle Harris, a homemaker and the oldest member of the Green Hill United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Johnson and Della Ferguson Johnson and was preceded in death by a daughter, Gaynell Harris.
Survivors include two daughters, Doylene Watts of Wilmar and Theresa Davis and husband, Tommy of Warren; one sister, Cleatus Smith of Warren; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Burial in Green Hill Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman.

Beatrice Scott
OAKLAND, Calif. — Beatrice Johnson Scott, 63, of Oakland, Calif., died Dec. 30
She was born March 9, 1945, at Stuttgart, Ark., a daughter of the late Lou Addie and James S. Johnson.
She was a member of Center of Hope Community Church at Oakland.
Survivors include daughters, Annette Scott, Beverly Ann Scott-Washington and Connie Louise Scott; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Center of Hope Community Church. Arrangements are by Whitted-Williams Funeral Home at Oakland.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Darnell Brooks
The family of Darnell Louis Brooks who died Dec. 30 will be at the home of Patricia Brooks, 1521 S. Nevada St., Pine Bluff.
