By John Whipple/LINCOLN COUNTY CORRESPONDENT
Wednesday, February 11, 2009 10:06 AM CST

grady — The girlfriend of a Grady man shot seven times in the back early Sunday has been arrested on a probable cause of attempted capital murder.

The victim, Tommy Knight, 43, was listed in fair condition at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The suspect, Samantha Kay Clay, 34, of Grady, is being held in the Dumas jail on a $200,000 secured bond following a probable cause hearing Monday before Star City District Court Judge Vic Harper.

Police said that Clay is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Knight was shot in the right side of his back with a .45 caliber weapon as he lay in bed at about 2 a.m. Sunday in his home at 714 Morton St., police said.

Responding police officers found drugs and weapons in the home.

The case is still under investigation by the Arkansas State Police and the Grady Police Department.
