The Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball will be a glamorous and gay affair — the outstanding social event of Pine Bluff’s winter season — but its purpose is serious.
A group of young matrons banded together in the mid-thirties for the purpose of organizing a service organization to help underprivileged children in Pine Bluff. In 1936, the group made the first of a series of gifts to Davis Hospital and in 1939, a prenatal clinic was opened.
Back in the thirties, the Auxiliary realized the need for one big moneymaking project each year in order to meet the charitable obligations undertaken by the group.
The organization’s budget varies each year, but has ranged up to $7,470. The proceeds of the Charity Ball will go toward the Auxiliary’s charitable work and projects.
