Clyde Bailey
Clyde D. Bailey, 55, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Little Rock.
He was born May 22, 1953, in Lawton, Okla., son of Rosie Tucker Bailey of Pine Bluff and the late Bruce Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was reared and received his early education in Grady, graduating from Grady High School.
He served in the U.S. Army for 18 years, which included deployments to Vietnam and Desert Storm. After retiring from the military, Mr. Bailey served in the Army Reserves in Pine Bluff for two years. He also worked as a guard for the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia McEntire Bailey, whom he married July 1, 1972, in Linwood; son, Patrick Scott Bailey and wife, Ann Marie, of Redfield; brother, Ray Brackenridge of Pine Bluff; three sisters, Jean Armitage of Pine Bluff, Wanda Whitten of Jerome and Patricia Potter of Little Rock; stepmother, Betty Bailey of Jacksonville; and a granddaughter, Amanda Wooley of Redfield.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Elder Lawrence Hobbs and Minister Michael Deloney officiating. Burial will follow in Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Sherwood.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and 11:45 until service time Wednesday at Robinson’s.
The family will be at 6506 Jones St., in Pine Bluff.

Lorene Byrd
Lorene Raney Byrd, 87, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Born in Pine Bluff Jan. 17, 1922, a daughter of the late William Noah and Dona Estelle McBryde Raney, she was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1940.
She married James “Jim” Byrd in Pine Bluff in September of 1940 and made her home here since. Mr. Byrd died in 1984. A homemaker, she was a member of First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Byrd Townsend and son-in-law, Scott, of Pine Bluff; one grandson, Bryan Scott Townsend of Pine Bluff; and one brother, Kenneth Raney of Casscoe, Ark.
Her husband; son, James “Jimmy” Byrd; and four brothers died before her.
Services are Wednesday, 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Rick Glover officiating. Interment follows in Bellwood Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinson’s.

Russell Bass
BRYANT — Russell Lewis Bass, 52, of Bryant, Ark., passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark.
He was born Aug. 18, 1956, in Gulfport, Miss.
After graduating from Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa, he was employed by Clinton Corn Processing Company and Clinton Ironworks. Russell served as a civil service employee with the U.S. Army at several military installations, including Crane, Indiana; Erlangen, Germany; Tooele, Utah; and McAlester, Okla. He served two tours in Iraq, one during Desert Storm and one during Iraqi Freedom. Currently, he was serving as chief of the Material Management Division at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Russell enjoyed restoring Ford Mustangs, hunting and fishing. His life was highlighted by a hunting trip in Alaska with his father and brothers, hunting red stag and chamois in Europe, caribou in Alaska and salmon fishing in Alaska. He was a staunch conservative and enjoyed following politics. Russell was very close to his family and enjoyed family get-togethers. His passion was instilling a strong value system in his children to ensure their success and happiness. A loving husband, father, son and brother, he will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Bass.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Deborah Ann Bass; children, Joseph and Emily Bass, all of Bryant, Ark.; father, Thomas Bass and wife Linda of Colona, Ill.; two brothers, Thomas Bass Jr. and wife Lori, and Samuel D. Bass and wife Michelle, all of Clinton, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 North, Alexander, Arkansas (501-455-1067).

Frances Crawford
HEBER SPRINGS — Frances Dial Crawford of Heber Springs passed away at Golden Living Center, March 6, 2009. She was 91 years old.
Frances had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1980. Raised at Pine Bluff, Ark., she was the daughter of Henry F. and Minnie Dial.
Professor Dial, as he was called, was the longtime principal of Pine Bluff High School and Superintendent of the Pine Bluff School System. He devoted 38 years of his life to education in Pine Bluff.
Frances was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, attended Texas State College for Women, now TWU, and graduated from Arkansas State Teacher’s College, now UCA.
She was preceded in death by parents and her husband of 52 years, Z.L. Crawford.
Frances is survived by a brother, Henry F. Dial Jr. of Middlothian, Va.; a daughter, Marjorie Wilson of Floral, Ark.; and a son, Richard Crawford of Heber Springs, as well as seven grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.
A former member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, she was an Episcopalian and a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church of Heber Springs.
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center for their loving care during the last years of Frances’ life.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Hwy. 110 West, Heber Springs. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home.
Syble Calhoun
MONTICELLO — Syble Lee McDaniel Calhoun, 73, of Monticello died Monday at Golden Living Center.
She was a daughter of the late Willie Walter McDaniel and Mary C. Stracener McDaniel.
She was a retired accountant for Drew Memorial Hospital and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Jamison of Dermott and Carolyn Diane Morphis of Monticello.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Rushing.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home at Monticello. Burial: Mount Zion Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
William Gifford
MONTICELLO — William Kenneth “Kenny” Gifford, 79, of Monticello, died Sunday at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Waites Gifford of Monticello; two sons, Steven Brett Gifford of Fort Smith and Kenneth Bruce Gifford of Eudora, Kan.; one daughter, Linda Powell of Branson West, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Karen Donaldson of Fort Smith, Lisa Brantley of Bentonville, Ark., and Elaine Mitchell of Warren; his first wife, Shirley Ann Thornton, mother of his children; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Burial in 16th Section Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bobby Bordenaro
TILLAR — Bobby Don Bordenaro, 47, of Tillar, Ark., born Dec. 24, 1961, in Monroe, La., the son of the late Nick and Lottie Bordenaro.
Bobby was Pentecostal by faith and employed by Guy Teeter farms. He died March 8, 2009, in Dumas, Ark.
His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, Dumas, Ark.
Funeral services at 2 p.m., Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edwards Plunkett officiating, followed by burial in Scott Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Charlotte Bordenaro; and two sons, Nick Bordenaro III and Lester Bordenaro of Tillar, Ark.; and two sisters, Sarah Plunkett of Watson, Ark., and Peggy Ann Lumley of Manchester, Tenn.
