YESTERYEARS FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2009

Notes on the Perfect Bedroom:

When a bedroom is shared, it is a good idea to place tiny lights under the beds, controlled by a switch convenient to the beds. Thus a person retiring late or finding it necessary to arise in the night may have sufficient light to guide his footsteps without disturbing the sleeper.

Every bedroom should boast an electric fan and a portable electric heater. Getting up on a winter morning is much less terrifying if one can dress in the warm glow of a radiant heater. And sleeping and dressing can be much more comfortable accomplished in summer when an electric fan (preferably suspended from the wall) keeps the air agitated.

SAIGON, South Vietnam — Two more American dead were reported in South Vietnam today. A United States Navy officer was killed by the Viet Cong in the Mekong River delta, and a Marine died of wounds suffered in an accidental shooting at Da Nang air base.

Their deaths raised the unofficial total of Americans killed in Vietnam since December, 1961, to 430 — 304 of them in combat.
