PINE BLUFF TALKS NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Members of the Pine Bluff School Board met for more than an hour behind closed doors Tuesday evening discussing the replacement of Superintendent Frank Anthony, but took no action, according to the Rev. Dr. W.R. Norful, board president.
The board will meet in a third called session at 6 p.m. Thursday, Norful announced after the executive session ended.
Anthony announced recently that he plans to retire June 30 after more than 10 years as the district's chief executive. Fifteen educators are seeking to succeed Anthony is the school post.
The 15 applicants who responded to advertising placed by the school board are:
Alfred D. Carroll, principal at Southwood Elementary School;
Suzette Anderson, principal at W.T. Cheney Elementary;
Ronald S. Laurent, principal of Jack Robey Junior High School;
Mary E. Quinn, deputy superintendent of the Tulsa, Okla., public school system;
Terry Eason, a coordinator for the Duncanville Independent School District, Duncanville, Texas;
J. Leonard Wright, currently unemployed, Grand Prairie, Texas;
Saul Lusk, superintendent, Lee County School District, Marianna;
Tayna Y. Bartee, substitute teacher for the Shelby County School District, Memphis;
Ron D. Caine, assistant principal, Tulsa public schools;
Mark Leon E. Smith, math teacher, Dollarway School District;
Betty Dunn Wright, assistant professor, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff;
John W. Calaway, superintendent, Mountain Home School District;
Mona Chadwick, assistant superintendent, Liberty Independent School District, Liberty, Texas;
Derry L. Roberts, assistant professor, Arkansas Tech University, Russellville; and
Timothy R. Weinentin, assistant principal, Central High School, Davenport, Iowa.
