Those who make A in English the rest of the term at Free Bridge School will not have to take a test.
The pupils of the seventh grade English class have been writing dialogues.
Oneida and Nadene Veazey are going to enter literary events. Oneida Veazey is going in arithmetic and spelling. Nadene Veazey is going in spelling and composition.
Those perfect in spelling this week are, seventh grade — Tommie Robertson and Dorothy Mills. In arithmetic, seventh grade — Oneida Veazey, Dorothy Mills and Gracie Ewton.

April 20, 1948
Firemen shoved hoses through a window of the Jefferson County Courthouse early this afternoon when the janitor’s supply room in the building caught fire. Damage to the courthouse was minor.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Today’s Pullman berth is on its way out.
Tomorrow — The women will have all the hip and arm room they need for wriggling into girdles and the men will be able to make with the pants without doing a neck-stand.
This is because the railroads have ordered more new passenger equipment — $500,000,000 worth — and all sleeping cars will have bedrooms or roomettes.

The City Council last night passed an ordinance raising the prices of grave space at Graceland Cemetery. The new price for a grave space will be $100. Formerly, it was $50.
From now on, you are officially prohibited from wandering away from the grocery store with a shopping cart. The shopping carts stay at the store.
The ordinance passed provides for a $50 fine for anybody convicted of taking a shopping basket away from a supermarket.
