DEATHS FOR FRIDAY, MAY 8, 2009

Timothy Boykins

Timothy Rayshun Boykins, a son of Tony Ray Boykins II and Beverly Nicole Gammon, both of Pine Bluff, was born and died March 15 at Pine Bluff.

Other survivors include two sisters, Shaligha Boykins and Irayana Boykins; grandparents, Tina Boykins, Alma Gammon and Possie Gammon; and his great-grandmother, Evangelene Gammon.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Tony Ray Bokins III.

Graveside servcies will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Christopher Heard officiating. Arrangements were by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.

Abbott Goodwin Jr.

T. Abbott Goodwin Jr., 81, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., son of T. Abbott Goodwin Sr. and Ilene Goodwin.

Mr. Goodwin was reared and received his early education in Alexandria, La., graduating from Bolton High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea.

He worked for Arkansas Power and Light for 43 years.

Mr. Goodwin was a member of the Optimist Club and American Legion.

He was a faithful and hardworking volunteer with youth sports. Mr. Goodwin is a member of the Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame for his service of over 40 years as district and state commissioner and assistant Southwest Regional commissioner. He volunteered at the Pine Bluff Boys Club (now Seabrook YMCA) coaching baseball, basketball and boxing. Mr. Goodwin also coached in the Golden Gloves boxing program, Connie Mack baseball and American Legion baseball.

Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Annette Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Roberts Goodwin, whom he married Oct. 29, 1962, in Pine Bluff; daughter, Donna Rush and her husband, Marshall Morgan Rush, of Pine Bluff; son, Tracy Abbott Goodwin of Clarendon; and three grandchildren, Mason Rush of White Hall, McKinley Rush of Pine Bluff and Mattison Rush of Pine Bluff.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Rick Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Rowell Cemetery.

Dorothy Johnson

Dorothy Johnson, 73, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died May 1, 2009, in Little Rock, Ark.

She was born Jan. 17, 1936, to the late Johnny and Helen Manning in Monroe, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Johnson; and four brothers, Henry Manning, Arthur Manning, Eddie Manning and Mack Manning.

Survivors include her husband, Levi Johnson of Pine Bluff, Ark.; sons, Earnest Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Perry Johnson, all of Pine Bluff, Ark., Herman Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., and LyBriant Johnson of Little Rock, Ark.; daughters, Margie Hardnett and Alice Jenkins, both of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Barbara Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Johnnie McGowan, Willie Boose, Edna McNleey and Mary Manning, all of Kansas City, Mo., Betty Reed of Altheimer, Ark., Ruby Meyers of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Earsalene Phifer of Oak Park, Kan.; brothers, Charlie Manning, Calvin Manning, both of Kansas City, Mo., Ira Manning and Roy Manning of Atlanta, Ga.; and 28 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Johnson services will be Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. at Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cypress Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today at 2900 W. Sixth, Trinity Annex Building from 5-7 p.m. Services by Christian Way Funeral Home.

Lawrence Miller

Mr. Lawrence Curtis Miller, 89, of Pine Bluff, Ark., departed this life Friday, May 1, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

The son of the late Mary and Elbert Miller was born in Tucker, Ark., where he received his early education. He attended AM&N College, now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

He was united in matrimony to the late Eula Mae Sims and to this union five children were born.

He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He later united with the Damascus Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. John H. Nolen. He remained a member under the pastorage of Rev. Lavara Henry.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and received several certificates of recognition for dedication to his duties which exceeded the standard requirements for the position and also for exceptional work performance. He retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

He is survived by three daughters, Audrey J. Armstrong and Peggy (Aaron) Branscomb, both of Pine Bluff, Linda Miller Edwards of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Lawrence C. (Betty) Miller Jr., Joe Davis (Margaret) Miller, both of St. Louis, Mo., King Elbert (Velia) Miller of Jacksonville, Ark; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Ronald S. Laurent is the officiant. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Miller will lie in repose at the church Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m.

Garey Walker

DUMAS — Mrs. Garey Terry Walker, 87, of Dumas, died, Friday, May 1, 2009.

She was born in Reedville to the late Ivano and Corine Newman.

Her survivors include sons, Maurice Terry of Liberal, Kan., Elder Ivanhoe Terry of Lake Charles, La., Major Terry of Dumas, Ernest Terry of Souix Fall, S.D., and Clarence Terry of Spring, Texas; daughters, Lundell Bell and Nadalyn Berry of Dumas, Lois Terry and Doris Terry both of Alexandria, Va., Joann Hagood of Dumas and Restee Wherry of Souix Fall, S.D.; sisters, Doris Bess of Gould and Charlotte Newman of Dumas; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Her service is Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Holy Temple COGIC in Dumas by Supt. Robert Robinson at 10:30A. Burial will be in Curtis Hall Cemetery in Pickens.

Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.

The body will lie in state at the church form 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

The family will be at 114 North May Drive, Dumas, Ark.

Mildred Roeck

HOT SPRINGS — Mildred Roeck, 81, of Hot Spring, formerly of Sheridan, died Tuesday.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lost Creek Cemetery at Sheridan. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home at Sheridan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sincere Todd

LITTLE ROCK — Little Sincere Trayvoce' Todd, 8 of Little Rock, died, Sunday, May 3, 2009.

He was born in Pine Bluff to Stephen Todd of North Little Rock and Vershonda Dorrough of Little Rock.

His survivors include sister, Lindsey Todd on North Little Rock; grandmothers, Patricia A. Dorrough of Pine Bluff and Carolyn Branch of Sherwood; great-grandfather, Benjamin Dorrough Sr. of Pine Bluff.

His services will be Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Highland Baptist Church by Rev. Christopher Mack at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 5:30-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The body will lie in state at the church from 1:45 p.m. until time of service.

The family will be at 519 Park Place, Pine Bluff, Ark.

Shirley McDonald

MONTICELLO — Shirley Jean Fullbright McDonald, 55, of Monticello, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at her home.

She was born May 25, 1953, in Monticello.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, a Baptist and was preceded in death by her mother, Birtie Lorene Cessor Fullbright.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Randy McDonald of Monticello; two daughters, Cindy Bearden and husband, Kendall of Gulfport, Miss., and Christie Daniels of Monticello; her father, Floyd Fullbright of Monticello; three cherished grandchildren, Alannah Hensley, Madison Daniels and Gabriel McDonald, all of Monticello.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements by Stepenson-Dearman.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J.B. Henley

STAR CITY — J.B. Henley, 59, of Star City died Wednesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

He was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Star City, to John and Mary Louise McGehee Henley.

He was a fabric cutter at School Apparel in Star City for 24 years. He was a Baptist. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a people person. He loved people, all his co-workers and he was a happy person. Everyone the knew him, loved him.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, John Henley, Morris Henley; and his grandparents, Fannie and Josh Henley, Velma and Harvey McGehee.

Survivors include his parents, John and Mary Louise Henley of Star City; wife, Billie Sue Wooley Henley of Star City; son, John Franklin Henley and wife, Lisa of Star City; daughter, Sonya King and husband, Bryan of Hot Springs; two brothers, Rodney Henley of Star City, Craig Henley and wife, Becky of Monticello; four sisters, Sandra Luker and husband, Danny of Star City, Bonnie George of Pine Bluff, Kristy Peyton of Star City, Jenny Wynn and husband, Clay of Star City; two grandsons, Johnny Henley of Star City, Colton King of Hot Springs; and one granddaughter on the way, Karlee Diane King of Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery near Star City.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Hayley

WHITE HALL — James H. Hayley, 79, of White Hall, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009.

He was born Sept. 10, 1929, at Johnson Chapel, Ark., to the late Grover and Linnie Lendermon Hayley.

He graduated from Des Arc schools in 1946. He was an United States Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflice and member of the John and Roy Horne VFW Post 4455. He attended the Methodist Church.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 39 years, retiring as a repeater. He was past president of the White Hall Little League Baseball, Scout Leader of Troop No. 88 in White Hall, a member of the Bradford-Ross Hunting Club and a active member of AA since May 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herval Hayley.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Holmes Hayley, whom he married April 17, 1954 (55 years); sons, Jim (Becca) Hayley of Little Rock, Greg (Tina) Hayley of White Hall; daughter, Amanda (Tom) Mount of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Adria Paternitti and Zach Brodis; sisters, Margaret Griffin of Hot Springs Village, Vivian Lambert of Little Rock, Dora Holloway of Des Arc.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall with Rev. Therral Wilson and Joe Dempsey officiating. Burial, 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Chapel Cemetery (Prairie Co.) by Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to White Hall United Methodist Church, 300 Church St., White Hall, Ark., 71602.

The family will be at their home in White Hall.

Armenis Perkins, 93, of Pine Bluff died Wednesday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
