DEATHS FOR SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2009

J.T. Ard

J.T. Ard, 83, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 31, 1926, in Sheridan, to Jim T. and Ida Crutchfield Ard. Mr. Ard was reared and educated in Pine Bluff.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict on the USS Hornet and the USS Bennington.

Mr. Ard had worked 37 years as a truck driver for P.M.T., formerly known as Southwestern Transportation.

He was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church and the Jacob Brump Lodge F&AM for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Louis Ard, Ed Ard, Otha Ard, Lester Ard; two sisters, Catherine Harper and Hawteen Gardner.

Survivors include his wife, Veda Jeanette Murray Ard, whom he married on Jan. 24, 1953, in Pine Bluff; a son, J.T. Ard Jr. of Batesville; a daughter, Paula J. Ard of Pine Bluff; a sister, Jimmie Mae Spears of Sanger, Texas; a sister-in-law, Ollie Mae Ard of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren, Megan Ard of Batesville, and J.T. “Trey” Ard III of Batesville.

Graveside services by Ralph Robinson & Son will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009, at Providence Cemetery with Reverend M.L. Faler officiating.

Memorials made be made to Davis Life Care East, 6811 S. Hazel St., Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family request an informal visitation starting Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ralph Robinson.

Billie Davis

ALMYRA — Billie Jo Davis, 73, widow of Vance Davis Sr., went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 14, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Augusta, Ark., to Glen and Dessie Lee Poole.

She was a homemaker, loving mother and a Baptist. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Survivors are four sons, Vance Davis Jr. and wife, Tammie of Humphrey, Jackie Davis of Tucker, Robert Davis and wife Sara of Killeen, Texas, and James Davis and wife, Dlynn of Blooming Grove, Texas; one brother, James R. Poole of Augusta; two sisters, Jerrie Lynn Smith of Lebanon, Tenn., and Lucille Oguin of Wynne; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.

McKenzie Greenwood

ALTHEIMER — Mc- Kenzie Greenwood, 95, of Altheimer died May 12 at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Forrest City, Ark., son of the late Ebb and Mistress Greenwood.

He attended Forrest City public school.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie N. Greenwood; one son, Gene Greenwood; sister, Anna Ward; two brothers, Ebb Greenwood Jr., Henry Greenwood.

He worked for American Buff Co., in Chicago, Ill., until his retirement.

Survivors include one son, Willie (Carmen) Greenwood, Marion, Ark.; one daughter, Sandra Herd, Altheimer; six grandchildren, Wanda (Charles) Ogltree, Detroit, Mich., Gene (Renea) Greenwood, Chicago, Tony Greenwood, Minnesota, Genean (Andrew) Inglam, Chicago, Shana Greenwood, Chicago, Tamala Herd, Altheimer; nine great-grandchildren, Titus, Brianna, Travis, Gentrail, Courtney, Keshun, C.J., Dongia, B.J.; two great-great-grandchildren, Cashun, Temir.

Visitations may be made today 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Perry Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral services and burial will be Tuesday in Chicago.

Millie Rankin

DUMAS — Millie Susan Leonard Rankin, 92, of Dumas died Wednesday at Dumas.

She was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Leonard and Miriam Jackson Leonard.

Survivors include two sons, Dewayne Rankin and Deloyd Rankin; two daughters, Dorothy Wright and Dewanda Thomas; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rankin.

Funeral services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Griffin Funeral Home at Dumas with the Rev. Leonard Ricketts officiating. Burial: Walnut Lake Cemetery.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Carter

MOUNT IDA — Rev. Charles E. “Buddy” Carter, 62 of Mount Ida, formerly of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

He was born Dec. 14, 1946, in Ouachita, Ark.

He was a retired Southern Baptist minister, having pastored three churches during his 35 years, a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam and a member of First Baptist Church in Oden.

He was the son of the late Henry Wilson Carter and Sarah Beatrice Cooper Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Kate Launius Carter of Mount Ida; two sons, Gary Carter and wife, Debbie and Nick Carter and wife, Heather, all of Monticello; one brother, Norman Carter of Lou Ann, Ark.; one sister, Alice Kalupa of Palm Bay, Fla.; three grandsons, Josh Carter and wife, Samantha, Justin Carter and Dylan Carter.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. today at Ouachita Baptist Church in Sparkman. Burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Robert Wilson

WOODLAWN — Robert Howard (Bob) Wilson, 84, of Woodlawn passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1924, at Calmer a son of the late Ira and Sarah Berry Wilson.

Mr. Wilson graduated from Woodlawn High School, and received his degree in agriculture from Arkansas A&M, currently known as University of Arkansas at Monticello. He taught agriculture at Rison before going into management for the B.F. Goodrich Company. Mr. Wilson finished his career as a cattle farmer and worked 29 years as a switchman for the Cotton Belt Railroad, before retiring in 1989.

He was a World War II veteran, member of the VFW and UTU, and a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church for many years. Mr. Wilson was avid hunter and fisherman, and a charter member of the Wilson-Norton Hunting Club, where he served as president for many years. Bob’s two passions were tending his vegetable garden and watching Woodlawn High School baseball games, where he was a fixture for many years.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Thomas Doke, Rufus, Martin Luther, Jewel (Shorty); two sisters, Virginia and Easter Lilly.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frankie Reynolds Wilson of Woodlawn; five children, Brenda Tipton of Little Rock, Donna French of Fort Worth, Texas, Katenia Chambers of Henderson, Ky., Rob Wilson of Dallas, Texas, and Lane Wilson of New York City, N.Y.; one sister, Margaret May of Calmer; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with Brother William Paul Woolley officiating. Burial will follow in Grapevine Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Troupe Bryant, Kyle Tipton, Dane Reed, Justin Barr, Dennis May and Jimmy May.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., today, May 16, 2009, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Betty Patrick, 200 Pumpkin Hill Road, Rison, Ark., 71665.

DUMAS — Eula McDaniel, 97, of Dumas died Friday at Delta Memorial Hospital at Dumas. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.
