Donald Jackson

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Jerome Jackson, 42, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, May 14, 2008.

He was born in Pine Bluff to Alice Warren and the late James Jackson.

Survivors include daughters, Tiara Lyons of Dallas and D’Niyah Jackson of Pine Bluff; brothers, Lafayette Jackson, Michael Jackson, both of Dallas, Ramondo Jenkins; sisters, Jacquelyn Shelton, both of Pine Bluff, Catherine Jackson of Little Rock and Sandra Jackson of Sugarland, Texas; one grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Happy Home Baptist Church in Jefferson by Rev. John Shelton Jr., at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Happy Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The family will be at 2008 Ridgway Road, Apt. 26, Pine Bluff, Ark.

Cecil Harvey

DUMAS — Cecil Wayne Harvey, 61, of Dumas died Saturday.

He was born Sept. 22, 1947, at Briggsville, a son of Bertha Sexton Harvey and the late Cecil Harvey.

Other survivors include his wife, Annette Harvey; one daughter, Rachel Dye; two brothers, Everett Harvey and Herman Harvey; and two sisters, Geneva Hale and Jeanetta Coulter.

Funeral services were held Monday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial was in Scott Cemetery by Griffin Funeral Home at Dumas.

Jeanette Merritt

HARRISON — Jeanette Merritt, age 62, of Harrison, slipped peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 17, 2009, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born Vera Jeanette Cole to Hughie B. and Rose Ann (Aureli) Cole, on Jan. 20, 1947, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, her maternal grandparents, Secondo and Elvira Aureli; and her paternal grandparents, Clyde and Willie Cole. Jeanette was a brave and valiant warrior in her battle with ovarian cancer.

Growing up as an “Army brat,” Jeanette traveled the world. In 1965, she joined the Air Force and served at Wilford Hall Hospital, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, as an X-ray and radiation therapy technician. Upon her departure from the Air Force, she returned to Pine Bluff where she was employed at Jefferson Hospital.

Jeanette married Randy on Sept. 13, 1975. They moved to Harrison in 1981 to enjoy the beautiful Ozark Mountains and raise their two daughters. As an active member of Red Oak Baptist Church, Jeanette was involved in many ministries but loved singing specials and singing with the choir. She was a wonderful wife and a devoted mother and grandmother whose outward beauty was eclipsed only by her inward beauty. She lived her life serving others and was loved by everyone who knew her.

Jeanette is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Randy; her daughters, Rhonda Sutterfield and husband, Michael of Cabot, Ark., and Ashley Clanton Stanley and husband Dylan of Clarksville, Ark.; two grandsons, Caleb Sutterfield and Elijah Clanton; her mother, Rose Cole of Pine Bluff; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Paul Mayhan of Pine Bluff; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Mack McCallister of Pine Bluff; a sister-in-law, Donna Harrison; two nieces and two nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and uncles; and many, many friends.

She also leaves behind her two best friends, Baxter and Bailey, who will greatly miss her.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Red Oak Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Crawford officiating. Interment is in Maple Leaf Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mike Fountain, Donnie Bailey, Keith Wolf, Ralph Lutz, Larry Mills and Guy Gilbert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ozark Humane Society, P.O. Box 542, Harrison, Ark., 72602; or to the Red Oak Baptist Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 2174, Harrison, Ark., 72602.

Homer Wright

JEFFERSON — Homer Ralph Wright, 72, a resident of Jefferson, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born May 27, 1936, in Rison, he was a son of William Homer and Dean Wolfe Wright.

Mr. Wright was reared and received his early education in Kingsland. Homer Ralph Wright married Margaret Thornsberry on Dec. 26, 1955, in Greenville, Miss.

Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1955 to 1958. He worked for Weyerhauser Company until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Wright owned and operated the Wishbone Farm (affiliated with Tyson Foods) for 37 years.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Thornsberry Wright of Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Wright Peck and Chris Peck of Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Elizabeth Bernell Wright of Jeffferson; four grandchildren, Mitchell Wright, Haley Webb, Taylor Wright, and Brandy Wright Thompson; one great-grandchild, Austin Thompson; one sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Bill Reap of Harrison.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Phillip Hedden and Rev. Travis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Elmer Ramey

LOUANN — Elmer Ramey, 81, of Louann, died Thursday.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ramey.

Survivors include sons, Dr. T.R. Ramey and Cedric Ramey; daughters, Betty Ramey, LaNita Crayton, Rhonda Snowden and Joslyn Ramey; brothers, Johnny Ramey, Sammy Ramey and Robert Ramey Jr.; sisters, Juanita Carter and Carlene Caliste; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Baptist Church in El Dorado with T.R. Ramey officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery by Williams Funeral Home of Camden.

Visisitation will be 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carolyn McClellan

NEW EDINBURG — Carolyn Faye Allen McClellan, 70, of New Edinburg, died Monday at Wagnon Place Nursing Center.

She was born July 31, 1938, at Plumerville, a daughter of the late James Dewey Allen and Arletha Arlee Evans Allen.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Pinckard of New Edinburg and Frankee Smith of Hermitage; one brother, Charles Allen of Warren; two sisters, Mae March of Warren and Betty McClellan of New Edinburg; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Reaves Cemetery. Arrangements are by Frazer’s Funeral Home at Warren.

Paul Vines

WARREN — Paul Gene Vines, 69, of Warren died Thursday at home.

He was born April 17, 1940. at Warren, a son of the late James Leroy Vines and Ruth Bowlin Vines.

Survivors include one stepson, James O. Vines of Lonsdale; one stepdaughter, Diane Furman of White Hall; one brother, Ralph Vines of El Dorado; two sisters, Carolyn Robinson and Lou Ellen Sexton, both of Springhill, La.; five stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Frazer’s Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Johnnie Pierce

WHITE HALL — Johnnie Mae Rucks Pierce, 80, of White Hall, entered into Heaven on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

She was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Okmulgee, Okla., to the late John W. and Carrie Gilstrap Rucks.

She had four brothers and nine sisters, two of which are still living, Norma Elizabeth Rutledge of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Dorothy Leatrice Greenway of Savannah, Ga.

Johnnie Mae married Cresley Wayne Pierce of March 1, 1959. They had five children, Linda Sue Pearce, Rena Kay Kinley, Bobbie Waynette Varnadore, Cresley John Pierce and Daniel Walter Pierce, all of which are still living.

Her husband Wayne died in 2002.

Johnnie Mae had nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and 13 step-great-grandhchildren. She was preceded in death by Andrea Renee Rushing in 2001.

Johnnie Mae grew up in a Pentecostal family. She was a member of Calvary’s Lighthouse Church. She was also a homemaker.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the White Hall United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Joseph Atkins and Pastor Sammy Alverson officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews, and Honorary Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall.

Visitation will be at Calvary Lighthouse Church, 8701 Shannon Road, Pine Bluff from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Calvary’s Lighthouse Church Building Fund, 8701 Shannon Road, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603.

The family will be at 13505 Dollarway Road, White Hall, Ark., 71602.

James Economos

PARSONS, Tenn. — Dr. James Michael Economos passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the home of his daughter in Parsons, Tenn.

He was born in Tarpon Springs, Fla., the son of Michael and Maria Karaphillis Economos.

He was retired from the Florida School System. He served with the Army Air Corps during WW II.

Survisors include his wife, Dr. Cora Matheny Economos; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Dorsett Ecoff, MFA of Parsons, Tenn.; a son, Edward Dorsett of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Theo Economos of St. Petersburg, Fla., Dr. Andrew Economos of Scarsdale, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Chris Politis of Plantation, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dr. Economos was a former member of the Rotary Club of Pine Bluff and attended Grace Episcopal Church.

Molly Waters

FORT WORTH — Molly Kay Matthews Waters, 76, was called to her heavenly home Friday, May 15, 2009.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Hills Baptist Church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens on Garth Road in Baytown.

Memorials: The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Trinity Hills Baptist Church, 6970 RM Road 2871, Benbrook, Texas, 76126 to be distributed to Wycliffe Bible Translators, Mission Aviation Fellowship and the church’s mission program or to the American Heart Association.

Molly was born, Jan. 3, 1933, to the late Callie Jane Sanderlin and Guy Walter Matthews and was raised in Dumas and Pine Bluff, Ark. She was a wonderful wife and mother and an amazing woman of God who loved her family and friends dearly. She was always teaching at home, church and in the community. She taught her children amazing life skills and about faith. She shared that faith with her church family in many capacities and enjoyed teaching people to water ski and educated the boating public.

Molly raised four children of her own and welcomed many others into her family, including numerous from other countries. She multiplied her family’s resources with her frugal management. She fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a private pilot in 1977 and she was an avid boater, water skier, story teller and hostess. Molly received commendations for U.S. Census work, served the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 30 years and was serving as coxswain and financial officer in Flotilla 55 at the time of her death.

Molly was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard; her son, Russ; three brothers; and a sister.

Survivors: daughters, Geneta and husband, Cecil Lasiter, Cynthia Waters; sons, Chris and wife, Debbie, Del and wife, Teri; grandchildren, Russel and wife, Joanna Lasiter, Lukas and wife, Janie Waters, Tiffany Lasiter and husband, Donald Foster, Crystal Waters, Callie Waters, Angelica King, Araceli Waters, Patti Waters, Angel Acosta; great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Benjamin Foster; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and “adopted” family.

Gwendolyn Bess, 54, of Pine Bluff died Monday at home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Johnny White, 58, of Pine Bluff died Friday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

LAS VEGAS — Zelma Louise Hunter, 94, of Las Vegas, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Saturday at Solai Hospice at Las Vegas. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perry Funeral Home at Pine Bluff.

MEMPHIS — Alfred Reams, 95, of Memphis, formerly of Altheimer, Ark., died Saturday at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perry Funeral Home at Pine Bluff.
