Horse event slated at Hestand Stadium
The Arkansas Quarter Horse Association Memorial Day Circuit will be held today through Monday at Hestand Stadium.
The American Quarter Horse Association approved show will test horses’ abilities in various classes and will feature events such as jumping, reining, barrel racing, cutting, roping and pole bending.
Highway department opens bids in SEA
The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for several projects in Southeast Arkansas.
A bid was opened for improvements to a roadway in Drew County to replace four bridges on Highway 278. Total Site Development LLC of Prairie Grove was awarded the contract at $2.3 million.
“These new bridges on Highway 278 will be built east of Monticello between Highway 35 and 293,” said Commission Vice Chairman R. Madison Murphy of El Dorado. The project is expected to be completed in 2010.
R.M. Courson Inc. of Hamburg was awarded a $936,355 contract to resurface three miles of U.S. 65 near Lake Village. “The project will begin at Highway 82 and will extend northward to Little Lake Bayou,” Murphy said.
The commission opened bids for improvements to a roadway in Cleveland County to resurface 9.5 miles of U.S. 79. Jet Asphalt & Rock Co. of El Dorado was awarded the $1.3 million contract. The project will begin at Rison and extend southward to Kingsland.
The Chicot County and Cleveland County projects are expected to be completed by Sept. 14 and are funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
