NEW YORK — A chambermaid in the Park Avenue (Waldorf-Astoria) where Charles “Lucky” Luciano, reputed vice overlord, lived for six months last year, identified today four of the defendants in the Luciano vice trial as frequent visitors to his apartment.



  • Miss Catherine Ann Shepherd and Miss Margaret Robinson, prominent members of the high school graduating class, will be complimented Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. Roger McNew and Mrs. Hunter McGehee, who will entertain with a girls’ tea from 4 to 5:30 o’clock in Mrs. McGehee’s home on Twentieth avenue.

    May 23, 1951

    A Pine Bluff man was today elected to the presidency of the Arkansas Bankers Association. J.W. Bellamy Jr., president of the National Bank of Commerce, was promoted from vice president to the top post. Bellamy is a native of Altheimer and was educated at Pine Bluff and Rutgers University.

    SHERRILL — Sherrill has its first official candidate for the office of mayor since 1978. As Charles Grauel puts it, he’s running for the job “for the simple reason no one else has.” This small town on Highway 15 has let the mayor and aldermen simply stay in office over several terms without bothering to file for re-election.
