YESTERYEARS FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 2009
73 Years Ago Several small children whose parents are unable to care for them properly need preserves, jellies, dried fruit, etc., to give them proper diet and citizens of Pine Bluff who are interested in helping the children have been asked to make contributions of these items of food. That this is worthy cause is vouched for by Mrs. J.H. Primm, J.W. Reap and E.W. Freeman. 58 Years Ago May 27, 1951 The engagement of Miss Betty Sugg, Y-Teen director in Pine Bluff, to Harry Quinn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Davis Quinn, is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Sugg of Enid, Okla. The wedding ceremony will take place in July in Enid. The bride-elect is a graduate of Phillips University in Enid. During the past year, she has been employed at the YWCA. Mr. Quinn is a graduate of Hendrix College, Conway. He is a member of the firm of Davis-Quinn and Sons, Contractors. 23 Years Ago May 27, 1986 WHITE HALL — Jones Pet Shop at 7004 Dollarway Road, was destroyed by fire early today and about 450 baby chickens, 24 hamsters and 12 parakeets, along with other animals, were killed. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Jones, owners of the 26-year-old store, were asleep in their home next door when they learned of the fire about 5:30 a.m. A passing motorist had alerted the fire department. Jones said he could save nothing and that he did not have insurance. |
