LITTLE ROCK — Because her father is an agriculturist and she has learned to appreciate land, Camille Goldmon, a senior at Pine Bluff High School, campaigned for the position and became the Land Commissioner at the 67th Session of Arkansas Girls State May 31-June 5 at Harding University in Searcy.
The daughter of Dewayne and Debra Goldmon, the Girls State delegate said she didn’t realize that the land commissioner’s office also sells tax-delinquent lands until she met with the Land Commissioner’s staff at the State Capitol.
“Girls State is an excellent opportunity for young Arkansas women to be exposed to public service and leadership opportunities,” said Land Commissioner Mark Wilcox. “I am happy that my office is able to participate in educating these young women about the workings of our state’s constitutional offices.”
Goldmon selected Cara McCallum of Forrest City High School and Devean Owens of Parkview High School as her chief deputies. They met with staff, toured the Land Commissioner’s office and spent time asking questions and learning about the role the office plays in serving Arkansans.
Goldmon is active in cheerleading, the Pine Cone newspaper, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Beta Club, History Club and the Student Council.
