Pine Bluff’s population climbed a whopping 75 percent during the past 10 years.
New population figures released yesterday by the Bureau of the Census, set the number of people who live in Pine Bluff at 37,147. This was a gain of more than seven percent over 1949’s 34,630.
Private First Class Charles L. Horne, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Leonard Horne, has reported to Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan, following a 30-day leave at home with his parents.
A 1948 graduate of Watson Chapel High School, Private Horne enlisted in the Air Force in January 1949.

Havis Hester, 37, of 621 West 24th Avenue, filed yesterday as a Democratic candidate for the office of Jefferson County coroner.
Hester is a surgical technician in the emergency room at Jefferson Hospital. He has worked at Davis and Jefferson Hospitals for the past 17 years.
A native of Jefferson County, he attended Pine Bluff schools and received surgical technician training at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.
He and his wife, Jamie M. Hester, have a daughter, Cynthia, 11.
He is a Baptist.
