HEAD-ON KILLS ONE IN WH
By Wes Clement/OF THE COMMERCIAL STAFF
A head-on collision on U.S. 270 Saturday evening killed one driver and injured another.
State Trooper Jassen Travis said a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling east on 270 struck a red Ford Escort causing the male driver of the Chevrolet to be ejected.
The female driver of the Ford was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Travis said he did not yet know the names of the drivers. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. in front of 9529 U.S. 270, about one-eight of a mile west of Dave’s Fireworks.
Travis confirmed there was an open alcohol container in the Chevrolet.
“I was going west and the blue vehicle (Chevrolet) just came over into the lane,” Tammy Hodges said. “We went off onto the shoulder of the road and he missed us. She tried to do the same thing, but he ran smack into her.” The Ford, Hodges said, was directly behind her vehicle in traffic before the collision occurred. |
